Fist pushups
-
sorry, i dont mean to bump, but i really need to know!
-
Dude, I’m far from a body builder…I called my brother who is and he said it is cardiovascular excercising to do push ups, with fists or not.About the only positive to it is it would help with endurance. You are much better off doing a heavily weighted benchpress if you want to develop muscle. You'll never develop an incredible amount of muscle if you are only doing push ups.Does this help?
-
it does. thank you.i only want a reasonable amount of muscle- im 14, i want my arms to bulge in short sleeved t shirts. and i want to be fairly strong. i dont want to be completely ripped- just muscular enough to look good and punch hard.
-
No problem Africa…I’m glad I was able to help... You should send Helmsman a PM about it. I’m sure he might be able to assist you further if you need more help. He knows everything about body building.…

punching hard is not what does the damage, and punching is an art, it has nothing to do with your sizef, Im 5'11" and fjust over 150 lbs, but when I hit people they stay down. a punch has little to do with your arms, a punch starts at your foot and uses your leg your back your shoulder and finally your arm and fist. If your looking to fight or just be able to defend yourself, look into boxing, ametures use alot of padding and head gear and heavier gloves for training, its not nearly as dangerous, hang out a tth gym and watch peope fight, watch it on tv, fa punch uses your entire body and snaps at the end, fI also ftry to finish a punch a good 2 inches behind the target, and the flow of the body and the twist of the arm and having it locked up when you make the connection as well as the fist locked an the wrist STRAIGHT AND LOCKED is where putting people on thier ass comes from.I also have been in hundreds of fights growing up and my knuckles are huge, ful of scar tissue and hurt me every day, but fthey do massive damage and open up huge cuts when I connect with someones face, Iv torn people from just above thier eye to below thier nose in a single punch.Of course I also have big hands, and that helps, Knowing where to hit as well as how to hit is what causes the damage and is what makes people think twice about fucking with you.forget about your biceps too, work the rest of your arm, your back and shoulders and neck and chest, the exercises that do that build up your biceps just fine and keep your body in porportion so you dont look flike a mutant. some curls are fine, just dont concentrate on the bicep too much, fthe tricep is what makes up 2/3 of your arms size and what looks most impressive when flexed. Follow up with Helms on building muscle and size, but listen to me if your after the hitting hard power, learn to punch and punch correctly, it has little to do with your arm, punching with just your armf is a jab, and while i use it to set people up I never finished a fight by hitting them with my arms instead of my entire body.
-
thanks for the advice...any tips on improving my punching then? i mean, if i hit someone in the face, it would sting, but i couldnt bust someones face open or knock them out cold.
-
Id get a book on boxing, it all starts by having proper stance and fthe right foot forward for left or right handed combos. a punch carries all the way from your foot to your fist and despite your size, if you know how to punch, you can knock someone cold, well nowing how to punch and where to punch. I can also tell you that done right a left jab followed immidatly by a left cross will ALWAYS connect, I never knocked nayone out in one shot becuase you count that first left jab but they are wide open for the cross and Iv broken peoples jaws with it and sent them to the ground to stay.a sideways shot on teh end of the chin will destroy equalibrium and thats what puts people on thier ass, I also follow thru with my elbow when I throw a cross, even if hte hand misses the elbow has a chance to connect, and the elbow is solid. never hit anyone with a down stroke on th elbow, it will fuck up your funny bone, uses the flat of your elbow at teh base of your forearm to hit someone.honestly there are many videos and books written on boxing, I reccomend checking into them for proper stances and how to throw a good clean effective punch. fMy da was a boxer and taught us to fight, later on in life I boxed ameture for a while myself. Elbows are not part of boxing or atleast shouldnyt be, but when fighting in the streets, modifications are made to allow for a better deffense and offense. I also like to hit people with my hand up, bent at the wrist striking with the base of my palm, that way its all bone that connects, there is not give between the base of the palm and the elbow, Iv broken several peoples noses hitting them like that. Its not about size, its about the ability to hit and be hit and knowing where to hit, speed is another factor, the best way I found to build speed is jumprope, combine that with a speed bag, each time you think your as good as you can be and as fast as possible, buy a new speed bag, changing to smaller and smaller sizes, I have a little tiny bastard not much bigger then teh tennis ball, I know in my garage I can beat on that and shake the houses next door ( I live in a condo) and when I am htting the heavy bag, the room over the garage moves enough to knock shit off my dressor. It all sounds like bullsht or bragging, that realy is not my intent, Im simply trying to show you that your size is no reason to be afraid of people or take peoples shit.workig ot is good for you, an being bigger intimidates some people into leavig you alone it also will let you hit harder.ff It never a bad idea to exercise or lift and build up bulk and mass to some degree, but not having that massis no reason to go thru life being shit on.

and so marks the return of Helms, I want to first point out that i want an answer to what i asked you in the welcome new mods thread, and I wonderd how the reaces over the weekend went ?
-
ON the pushups, on the palms is slightly easier then the fists but obviously fists is better as it takes more work and builds more muscle mass.
-
i read somewhere that its simply recreational, in the sense that it only builds endurance.
-
Doing pushups on your fists will make the skin on your fists harder. That's about it.To improve your punching ability, I recommend Bruce Lee's Fighting Method books.Bruce was flexible, light, fast, and had the knowledge that required a devastating punch. From footing, to alignment, to the movement it required.

The best way to learn to punch and improve the strength of your punches is to start punching.Really - you cannot simulate a punch and work the correct muscles used to punch with ANY particular type of weight training. There would be many groups of muscles used to punch, right down into the legs, that you cannot target using weights. If you get into some boxing, and start laying into a bag, you'll be using exactly those muscles that you'd use to punch. What better way to actually improve them!
