ya that was a bit dickish, and sorry but to me that adds up to 31,if they paid thirty and were to get 5 back that would mean 25,so if the bellhop pocketed 2 that would make it 27 and then 30 with the 3 he gave them
-
Why math is a pain in the ass
-
Ok I edited it is everyone happy now?
-
lol yes thank you im just a titnicker or pitnicker? ooo nitpicker thats right
-
They each paid $9, making $27; but only $25 of that went to the cost of the room (which was $25, not $30). The remaining $2 was expropriated by the bell-hop.
-
That's like the easiest and best way of explaining it ... you're smart
-
they did pay $9.. because they werent aware they were supposed to get $5 back.
-
Oh never mind, lol, Ineligible already did it in a much less complicated way.
-
That is exactly what I say ! they each paid 10, the bel hop brought 1 dollar each back so 10 - 1=9. and 3 X 9=27+2=29I dont give a shit how you do it, there is a missing dollar.I have the answer and still if you do it anyway other then 25 + 3 + 2 it doesnt work out but honestly, (10-1)=9 * 3=27 + 2=29 I dont give a fuck, it should work out to 30 no matter what order you do it in.I thought that ws the basis for the postulate that states, a+b=c and b+a=c and c-a=b or even c-b=ado they stil teach postuates i school ? I dont recall what number it was but its a real postulate but a postulate is a proven theory, and I just dont think that its proven since this fucks it up.BTW I was in 10th grade math and I did a problem my way and got ht right answer, my teacher admitted that my answer was right but I didnt use the right method to get it, fit was during my argument with him that if I get the right answer it doenst matter that i used basic math rather then an algabretic equation Im still right, his argument against that was this riddle, this riddle he explained to me is why you have to have algebra because basic math doesnt work for everything.that was HOLY SHIT that was 20 years ago, I still think Mr Conway is a dick.
-
I say we're all smart:)
-
ahahah nice! I think everyone is smart.. in their own way.. im just good a math.. i took it alot cause all my teachers were babes!! "Sir.. I don't get this question" eheheheh im glad i did that though.. Im pretty good at the hard stuff you learn in college
-
Don't you love it when you have a hott teacher and they lean all over you, over your shoulder, when they're helping you with something? Mmm Mr.Smith my Algebra teacher.. not only was he drop dead gorgeous he always smelled sooo damned good.
-
MmmmM Mr. Lemon.. the football coach.. built like a ...YUMMM!!!
-
miss norman for me so where does this bell hop live , and why didnt these freinds charge himwhy isnt law up held?and where is this motel the prices are amazing?
-
In reply to:27+2=29That's the fallacy in the original thing - there is no reason for adding the 2 to the 27. The $2 was part of the $27. The $27 paid consisted of $25 for the room and $2 stolen by the bell-hop. The $27 they paid, plus the $3 they got back, equals the $30 they originally paid, so there is no missing dollar.
-
I haven't read anyone else's answer's, but it's pretty simple it seems. They supposedly paid 9 each, so $27 total with $1 left over each. But in effect two guys paid $9 and the other $7 leaving himself with $3 instead of $1.
-
Huh?
-
no no no they paid 10 bucks each, the guy returned to them 3 dollars, 1 each, that means they each paid 9 and 3 x 9 = 27 then you ad the 2 th bellhop kept thats 29.Im trying to wrap my head around the fact aht iM adding numbers that shouldnt be added and thats why its fucking me up, that made sense to mea few minute ago after I read it but that was before I went outside to smoke and now its confuzzled again, math was never a strong point for me. Funny I can tear apart computers and fbuild em up again, I can build a fucking house and figure cubic feet for air for cement for what ever and run a dozer to cut a grade and build a road thru any trrain ya like, I can fdo any god damned thing so long as I dont have to use algabretic expressions, or if someone else figures out the formula for me

Its really annoying trying to explain this in the most simple form. The 3 guys paid $30 for the room but then the clerk gave back $5, so he only got $25 for the room. The guys got $3 back and the bell-boy got $2.$25 + $3 + $2 = $30The question is based on order, just like in math there is an order to things, an example of which is B.I.M.D.A.S. This means that when given a sum of any type there is an order to which you solve it. Brackets Indices Multiplication Division Addition Subtraction. So if given the sum "7 + 4 x 5" there are 2 ways of solving it. Taking the addition first makes "11 x 5" giving you 55. Taking the multiplication first makes "7 + 20" giving you 27. The latter answer is the generally accepted correct answer as it follows B.I.M.D.A.S.So it all just depends on order and trial & error. Its how most Math theorems are created.

Weird. Our Order of Operations is PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction), which is the same thing, just different words. I have never even heard of the word "indices" until now.

I think its more of a European word, or atleast Irish and British.
