I know none of you are dog experts. However my choc. lab just died and my other dog is a yellow lab and didn't see my choc. lab get put to sleep. The two of them were best buds. Now all my yellow lab does is perk his ears and run all over the house looking for him. It's becoming difficult to watch him do that. What can I do to let him know or make it so he's happy and not always thinking about it. Out of everyone, I think it's affecting him the most and it's hard to watch him go through it.Thanks!

The only thing that's really gonna help is time. He'll figure it out soon for himself. If it bothers you try to keep him busy so he's not running around looking for the other dog all the time.

That's rough. I don't think there is anything you can do. Eventually the yellow lab will accept that the other isn't there, though he won't forget him.If you are prepared to get another dog it might give him another companion and interest, though it won't be the same.We had two female mice once. One was white and big and fat and did nothing but eat. The other was black and always kept herself in shape on the wheel. When the white one died, the black one chewed her hands off until she died.

Dogs have emmotions similar to humans because they are so pack oriented like we are. Your lab will get over it and its going to take time. Just play with him plenty and take longer walks with him for awhile. He will come around.

Your dog knows that a member of your pack has died, or left. The important thing for you to do is to continue your daily routine. Dogs don't naturally grieve for long periods of time over the death of a pack member.Wait a while (at least 2-3 months) before buying a brand new dog, which should ensure that you and the yellow lab are both over the loss of your other dog. And PS... Dogs should NEVER be treated like people, and people should never be treated like dogs... Humans and dogs think differently!!!
