A friend of mine recommended me the book COMBAT ABS by Matt Furey. It contains over 40 ab exercises, but the main workout that Furey stresses as most important are 2 techniques called Farmer Burns' Stomach Flattener, and The Vacuum, both of which are deep breathing exercises. In the Farmer Burns, you basically take a deep breath, not allowing your stomach to expand, clench your throat, and slowly release the breath. The vacuum consists of bending over, exhaling, and instead of inhaling, coming up, lifting your diaphragm, pulling your stomach in, and holding it.
Does anyone know if deep breathing exercises such as these are legitimate for burning fat and strengthening the abdominals or is this just garbage?

I don't see how it wouldn't work out your abs- even if your not doing calisthenics you work your abs when you breath, but in all seriousness that burns thing soudns like a surefire recipe for a stroke.
