Occasionally, I get these, --- for lack of better word, since they're not hot flashes ---, "hot flashes" and my head feels really warm and my mind and senses get a little disoriented. They last like, 15 seconds, I think. Does anybody know what these are and if I should seek help? I've never told anybody about them before because I figured they were no big deal. I'm a bit curious what they are, though. BTW, I'm a guy, 14 years old, and I've been having them for at least a couple years, I think.

Was wondering what these are and if I need help...
-
Do they happen at any particular time, like when you stand up or get out of bed, or do they happen at random times?
-
Hmm, sometimes after I stand up they happen. Yeah, thinking about it now, they usually occur then.

Sounds like low blood pressure to me. It's nothing to worry about. When you get up quickly, some of your blood moves to the lower parts of your body, and out of your brain. You should get into the habit of standing up more slowly when you get out of bed, or out of a chair that you've been sitting in for a while.Typically, your blood pressure will slowly go up as you get older, and your "lightheaded" symptoms will go away. In any case, it's better for you to have low blood pressure than high; in fact, it may be healthier to have low blood pressure than average.

Okay, thanks for your help! I've been wondering why I've been having them for years.

No problem.

Hehe, steveA, you're like the low BP expert... I find it hard to just get up slowly to tell you the truth- i forget as soon as I sit down!:P Also, I just came back to the Netherlands after a year in Colorado. I've discovered that at higher alititudes, I get the near black-outs more often... hmm..

Makes sense. Less oxygen should exacerbate the problem. It shouldn't cause any harm, unless you fall and crash through the coffee table.

That would really suck...
