Dear all,My new partner in on the pill. I don't know what type at the moment, but she's had some issues with this pill and her doctor has suggested that she try another pill. She has been on this pill for a number of years.By going to a new pill (I'm sorry I don't have the details of current pill + new pill) should we wait a full cycle before having unprotected sex? Or is less time enough? Or should we wait longer than a cycle of 28 days or so?We're both not keen on condoms and would probably prefer to wait a safe amount of time before engaging in intercourse again.Condoms feel so 'one night standish' for both of us, a little impersonal and seem to detract from the beauty of it all. That's our opinion anyway. My main concern is whether we need to wait, and for how long.Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.SR

should we wait a full cycle before having unprotected sex? Or is less time enough? Or should we wait longer than a cycle of 28 days or so?I believe it's different with different b/c pills, and if the doctor didn't tell her, he left out the most important piece of information. If you know the name of the drug you can look up the prescribing information, but she really should call the doctor and get the information from him.

I suggest asking the doctor or reading the instructions...although after a quick look at mine it doesn't actually say what to do if you've switched...But it does say that you will be protected if you start taking it on the first day of your cycle, so if hers is like that and she starts to take it at the right time I would think it would be ok. But still, ask a doctor. I don't want the blame for unwanted pregancies!

Thank you - you're both correct. The best thing to do is to ask a doctor, as although you can offer advice here you obviously can't know the whole situation or take any responsibility! If it's as uncertain as that then there's no option (and no problem in doing so) but to simply ask the doc.Cheers and thanks.SR

I switched pills and my doctor told me I should use a backup method for the first month of the new pill.
