Ok, to start off, I am a 17 year old male. I have generally been thin my entire life, but have always had a good build. I used to work out, but kind of stopped that. I would say that I have an average build right now. I currently am 6 feet tall and (at my last doctor's appt) weigh 165 lb.However, one thing that's been pissing me off lately is that I am developing a pudgy stomach/chest. I can grab my stomach(right below my rib cage) and hold on to a blob of fat. It's nothing HUGE, i just am looking for a flat stomach.Anyway, For the past week and a half, I have been using an exercise bike in my basement, and I have been doing 2 sets of 24 minute runs. I get to choose a training level from 1-12, and I have been doing 7. However today, i moved up to level 8, with a 12 minute run of level 10 after (just to make it a complete hour). The bike starts off with a 4 minute warmup, then a 6 minute space of pedaling on a "hill". The pedals gain resistance for this. Afetr this, there is an 8-minute session of 1.5 min of flat land, to 1.5 min of hill. Each time the hill gets steadily bigger, and harder to pedal. Finally, there is a 6-minute cooldown where I pedal on flat land and then do a sprint for awhile.During these exercises, the bike tries to keep me pedaling at 80 RPM, except for the ending sprint, which is 100RPM.The bike also has a little dial that tells me my calories burned/hour, and I fluctuate from ~300 (flat land) to ~1250 (biggest hill). On average, I'd say I am burning 540 calories/hour. I also wear a sweatshirt while doing this (will this help??)Anyway, does this seem like a good workout routine to you guys, or am I not burning enough? I friend suggested jumping rope with a weighted jump rope every day for an hour, but I'm not too good at that. Also, any recommendations on a good diet would be extremely helpful.

Basically, the more cardio the better. There is no magic number to the number of caloris burnt etc, all those dials won't tell you how much weight you're losing. Just go in there for an hour or so, and (literally) work your arse off.You should leave the gym completely exhausted, you should stagger slowly to your car, you should cringe at the sight of stairs. Well, maybe not all that, but you get the point. Also, diet is far more important than exercise if you want to gain or lose weight.

I had the same problem when I was younger. Stop drinking soda, salty snacks, and for god sakes NEVER eat fast food. For me eating the right foods was easy. However, giving up soda is like giving up smoking. We're all addicted and don't even know it. I remember for the first couple weeks I was anxious all the time. The stuff is poison.
