1000 calorie a day unhealthy?
-
That sounds completely un-safe to me. Seeing how even 11 year olds have to eat more calories than that.
I think Helms is right, see a doctor about a certain diet you should take. -
Counting calories is unnecessary, all you need to do is lower your proportions and cut out fat foods. Replace sodas with water, french fries with baked patatoes, and fried foods with grilled foods. You will find that by doing this you are cutting down on alot of your calories, but your still eating healthy.A thousand calories a day sounds pretty unhealthy, don't worry so much about obtaining a number, worry instead about eating healthy foods.

It's good to avoid high-calorie things like soda / fried foods / fast foods, but there are other things that also have lots of calories. When I think of it, I like to look over what I'm going to eat and make a quick estimate of calores, and the adjust what I eat later accordingly. If the OP is seriously overweight, there may be a medical reason to loose weight quickly, but in general it's a lot healthier to lose weight slowly, and change your eating habits for life.

A bunch of my co-workers do 1500 calorie diets and they lose weight at a pretty good rate. I kind of introduced this diet to them because I did a 1000 calorie diet and lost a lot of weight... but then I got on here and Helms gave me some advice then I came to the conclusion that it was unhealthy.
My co-workers on the 1500 calorie diet eat healthy and they're older. They don't eat a 950 calorie McGriddle from McDonalds and say, "Oh, I've got 550 left". And them being older is important too because they don't need extra calories because they're not growing. I would also take a multivitamin while doing this kind of thing.
Like everyone said though, I'd see a doctor first.

How can a 1000 calorie diet be unhealthy? The less calories you eat the better! Calories contain fat and clog up your arteries. For the past fortnight, I have been living on the following diet:a banana for breakfast2 pieces of water melon for lunchan orange for dinnerNO SNACKS, NO CALORIES, NO PROPER FOOD. I am only drinking water (and lots of it in this UK heatwave).I have gone from 73kg to 67kg in 2 weeks. My ideal weight is 65kg (for a 5ft 10" guy) so I still have another 5 days of my 'diet' to go yet.

Because when you get off that anorexic diet you will gain all your weight back. Plus you need to eat a certain amount of calories a day to sustain life.
-
What Kiwi said is true.> Calories contain fat and clog up your arteries. Not true at all. Sugar has calories, but no fat. Olive oil and other monounsaturated fats won't clog up your arteries. I hope you're not giving them up.There is no point in losing weight so rapidly. It could have a bad impact on your health, and there is a great tendency to gain the weight back (and maybe some extra, although that's being debated) shortly after ending the diet. The only hope is to eat good (and good quality) food, in limited amounts. In other words, a healthy diet you can stay on for the rest of your life.

[Good list of health issues mentioned.]> HOMEOSTASISSet point: your body acclimates to the lower caloric input, and therefore you tend to hit some weight and then stop losing. I'm not sure if that would happen at 1000 calories a day, but it does point out the importance of exercise in any "weight loss" program. If you have an endocrine issue, you have a medical problem. But if you eat healthy, in moderation, and get some reasonable amount of exercise, you won't have (or will eliminate in a healty way) a weight problem.
