hey everyone, i am currently on the medication metformin. it is normally used for people w/diabetes. i dont have diabetes, im not even pre diabetic, however my insulin level is too high (what my endocronologist says) so for side effects i've been having all the normal ones, vomiting;headache;diarrhea;etc. but my diarrhea (or stool if its normal) is always black. not even like dark brown, black. i dont know if this is normal. is there anyone thats experienced metformin that can help me out with any advice/answers?

Metformin side effects

Try this link and see if that is a side effect. There are different ways to administer it, and I just looked at the oral. Seems like there are stomach related side effects that you should talk to your doc about.

Black stools usually means they contain blood, and that's not something that should happen. You certainly should be telling your doctor.

just wanted to add one thing here, as someone thats had bloody black stools and ended up in the hospital with bleeding ulcers that ended up being the source of the blood.Dont fuck around wiht bloody stools, black is blood, and its black because ti came from high in the digestive track, if its still red, it came form a wound near the asshole. There is another source of black poop though. Before you run off to a doctor think back, make sure you didnt have like an upset stomach and took some pepto, it turns your shit black too, but is just a side effect from the medicine.
