i've used limewire for a while, but it kept on giving me viruses, are there anything that lets me download stuff 4 free that doesn't give me as much viruses?

Limewire

frankly, they're all about thew same. I recently stater using Lime. It's fast when the item you're looking for is fairly common.I've found that Shareaza has a much brader library but gets really slow. The only times I've encountered viruses from P2P is when I went after software instead of just music and vid.

I take it that you are trying to download games or programs. I find it easy to avoid by being aware of how big the program is in the first place. When you see 851.7KB for a file, you should know that it is way too small to be a program and is in fact a virus. Games and programs are generaly MB not KB, you also have the option of checking the Bitzi Ticket and it would tell you if the file is rated as working, if there is no info, then don't download. Some video files like asx files are ones that bring you to a web site automatically. To avoid that just go under options and filter any asx and mov files. Viruses are the penalty of downloading free stuff and if your carefull, you should be able to get anything and everything for free. I have noticed that some songs are bad too, when I see a long list of round number users like 120, 110, 100. It seems to be a tracking virus that can see what your I.P. is. So be carefull and you shall inherit the world.

I have set out a few rules for myself when it comes to downloading from Limewire.
1 - Don't download any file less than 2MB
2 - Only download MP3s that provide a bitrate.
3 - Only download Mpeg or Mpg files. (I say this because you can preview them without downloading the whole file, unlike AVI)I never use Limewire for anything other than movies and music, so as far as programs go you're on your own.

You Brilliant Bastard!

Well, I only say this because:1 - Any files below 2MB have titles including the words "fuck pussy asian preteen teen hotty black anal cream facial etc.." and aren't worth watching (and often are guaranteed to be viruses.)2 - In my experience, any MP3 that doesn't have a bitrate, ain't music.3 - If I'm gonna download a 120MB video file, I'd like to preview it to make sure that its what I want.

Another good system is eMule and eDonkey. I get a lot of my movies over eMule. A good site for movies, tv shows, games and software is www.sharevirus.com

Limewire is a pile of shit, I use soulseek for music, use bittorent sites like BTjunkie and The Pirate Bay for everything else. When it comes to P2P dont download exe's unless your pretty sure you know how to fix most virus's and wanna waste the time doing it. Its a gamble I have taken before, I finaly got the real probram but spent 3 hours fixing the virus's, the worst made it so I couldnt delete ANYTHING, and couldnt close programs. Dont download stupidly small files, only an idiot would download the newst n-sync song that was 1mb and a .exe I dont need to even virus scan anymore because I KNOW I havnt got a virus and never will, my PC is a mighty fortress that no ones getting anything I dont want into.

Drop lime wire and go with Bittorrent.

On Verizon DSL (at least in the Boston area), as soon as you connect with bit torrent, the speed of your DSL connection is throttled way, WAY back. And it's not just for the bit torrent packets. It's for the whole connection. They don't do that for Limewire.Other than that, folks seem to love bit torrent. A lot of the traffic on the Internet backbone is bit torrent packets.
