So my friend and I went to his aunt's pool we got in and noticed an abnormally high chlorine content the water stung more than normal was kind of slimy and tasted almost mettalic anyways after maybe a half hour of swimming we both noticed that are scrotums stung and continued even after we got out of the pool for maybe an hour an a half. Well I was wondering if there's a reason. I've been trying to find something on the internet about this but have not yet succeeded if you have any information please post.

Pool chlorine's effect on testicles.

id assume that it would be the same effect chlorine would have on the rest of ur skin. maybe that area was more effective because of the sensitive nature of that skin.the lession is: dont swim in a pool with too much chlorine in it OR if u didnt know, maybe it would have been wise to get out of the pool once u noticed the chlorine was to consentrated

Sometimes when it seems like the chlorine content is too high, it's really that it's too low. A little chlorine converts urea from people peeing in the water into monochloramines that sting the eye, and may irritate the skin; more chlorine turns them into dichloramines which decompose.
-
I don't think that would be it though. If they smelled the chlorine and the water seemed slimy (a major indicator), it's likely there was too much chlorine, not too little. Not a good pool to swim in, guys. Too much chlorine is very bad for the skin. Don't go back.

I think that slimy feeling is a major reason to say the chlorine was high. if you ever put your hand in chlorine bleach you get that same feeling.
-
When there's not enough chlorine, you get slime from the stuff that grows in the water. Ever put your hand in a slimy pond?Water would have to contain an awful lot of chlorine to feel "slimy" -- it would likely bleach the color out of your bathing suit. There are water fountians nearby that contain a lot of chlorine (there are signs posted nearby about the water damaging clothing). I'll have to go feel the water.

The slimy feeling from chlorine bleach is not due to the chlorine, but to the alkali - the very high pH. Water with a pH that is too high does have a bitter taste, and it certainly would sting the eyes and irritate sensitive skin like on your scrotum, so perhaps it's the pH that needs testing. Though if it were high enough to feel slimy for that reason, I'd expect it do practically dissolve your eyeballs.

> I'd expect it do practically dissolve your eyeballs
And certainly your bathing suit.

That depends what it's made of. Some textile materials are quite resistant to alkali, but sensitive to acid.
-
OK then, certainly your cotton garments, and many textile dyes.

ok, perhaps it WAS 2 low in chlorine, caulseing the slimey shit that u get if u forget to put chlorine in for afue days. then the owner of the pull put a large amount of chlorine in it to try and return the pool to normal, un-slimy conditions...u used to have a pool, we moved house,i miss it
