Mental illness
-
Well if you watch those ads that are occasionally on TV supposedly 1/3 of us will suffer from some form a mental illness over our life. I don't people are quizzed about their mental health for many things. For jobs they do tend to ask if you have any type of disability, but that's more physical. Universities in NZ definately don't ask.

i thort it was 1/5?yea, i like those adds.but ive hurd friends say nasty shit about ppl with those problems and that pisses me off cuz they dont get it and i dont feel i can talk 2 them about stuff like that.im not sure because i have a close friend thats about as effed up as me, the difference being shes on meds 4 it and sees a therapist. and i think there was sumthing she had 2 put down if she had any mental disorders 4 but i cant remember....thank god unis dont ask.loli donno, i still cant help but think there r alot of ppl out there who r ignorant of this kinda stuff and who say and think dumb mean stuff like sum of my mates....

There are people who are ignorant about a lot of things. You don't have to share your private business with them.
I can't think of a situation where anyone has a right to ask you about your medical or psychological issues, unless you're trying to get a military security clearance, or something like that. If you have bipolar disorder or something like that, you have something that many, many people are being treated for.
Just do what you need to do. The alternative is to have a crappy life, which is not a good alternative. Go make an appointment.

good 4 uthat just makes me feel like a drama queen. i havent been in any situation meaning id have 2 miss school for 6 weeks or sumthing. it dosnt mess with my life that bad , its more of an increadable frustrateing inconvenince that makes ppl think im quite insaine. it messes with school work more then id like..alot more then id like.but how do i no this isnt normal? i dont really remember feeling "normal" for a long time....im abit confused i wanna go 2 my doctor and sort this shit out but im not feeling 2 bad right now and everything seems like a figmnet of my imagination. and my doctor seems like the kinda person who would tell me im just a moody teen.
-
You ask, "but how do i no this isnt normal?", after saying, "its more of an increadable frustrateing inconvenince that makes ppl think im quite insaine. it messes with school work more then id like..alot more then id like."You answered your question before you asked it."...but im not feeling 2 bad right now"What happens in a few weeks, when the bad feelings come back again?> and everything seems like a figmnet of my imagination.Your feelings are not a figment of your imagination.> and my doctor seems like the kinda person who would tell me im just a moody teen.I sure hope not, or he's not very competent. You won't know if you don't try, but I have a feeling he'll be more sympathetic than you think, if you're honest with him.

this all seems 2 difficult right now. i may get round 2 it eventually but it seems 2 hard. i dont really feel comfatable talking 2 my family doctor about that kinda thing, i really dont ike her as a doctor very much...mmmm, ill work it out eventually
-
ill work it out eventuallyHas it been working out so far? Are you happy with your life as it is? Or are you procrastinating?
-
no, no and yes, i am the queen of procrastination
-
At the end of the day, it's up to you. No one can force you.
-

People with mental illnesses are just like anybody else, except probably more used to being shunned by their peers... Unfortunately, most poeple don't realize this (or care) so we end up with intolerance and unfairness. Sometimes people who have been friends for years have a falling-out over something as small as bi-monthly therapy sessions. It's just life.
You never HAVE to state a mental illness, but if you don't, managers, teachers, etc. can hold it against you (good excuse to fire ya wihtout getting in trouble. You're deceptive, and/or lied on your application). Most people don't discriminate in hiring or accepting, and some places will hire you quicker, because of Affirmative Action (which is the most ridiculous and discriminatory bulls**t ever, btw). But a lot of people are likely to view and treat you differently in person, even if not on paper. Because people (as a whole, not as individuals in general) on this planet are BS.
Sometimes, it doens't matter. I got fired from my last three jobs for being a cutter. The first time I was working with kids, so I can see it. Then I did sales at this nice little store, and it was summer. OK, a couple of times I might have scared off customers... But the last time I was working at a Hot Topic wannabe place, and wearing arm warmers so no one could see or anything... But I washed my hands in the bathroom and the manager was in there, and she laid me off for being a 'whore for attention'. I never showed anyone my cuts. I just like to be clean and hygenic, especially at lunchtime! (she didn't wash HER hands, by the way, and she ate lunch right after this, ew!) And what business would it be of hers anyhow? It's a legitimate problem which I am trying to overcome. Her comment really pissed me off, so I tried to file a suit under the ADA act, but I couldn't get anyone to agree that my scars and cuts were any sign of a disability. Apparently depression, anxiety, executive function disorder, multiple personality disorder, and P-TSD, among other issues, didn't count, because you don't HAVE to cut. My argument was that you don't HAVE to have panic attacks to have anxiety, but that doesn't make it any less real. I lost my stand, though, and ended up broke...
It's not a label issue. You don't have to tell anyone, but it's nice to know about yourself. And, I know it sounds awful, but you CAN use it for you... The Affirmative Action bit could get you a quick hire. And then say, if you're fired for being a b**ch to a customer or someting, you can always say you're suffering from some mental illness or another, and if you have proof, a lot of bosses/managers are more willing to put you in back or something instead of firing you than they would be if you were 'of sound mind'. So you can make it positive instead, I guess.
Boo to disabilities (especially crippling emotional problems, that interfere with daily life). There's my two cents.
