I have heard people say that as soon as you get your period, you are done with growing; I have heard people saying that getting your period is just the start of growing; and I have heard numerous other things, each contrary to the one before. My moms friend said that since I have gotten my period, I will not grow any taller. I do NOT want to believe this because I am short! But again, my 19 year old sister is barely taller than me. But my 16 year old sister is taller than my mom. My mom and dad are pretty short. I do NOT want to remain short. Its annoying because I do not want to believe this bs that was taught back in 1970.
This is bothering me.
Girls stop growing at ages between 16 to 17
The mechanism that makes you eventually stop growing has nothing to do with your period, and your period usually comes years before you stop growing.
where did you get that from?

there are no set ages that anyone stops growing at.where did you hear that from?
These wounds won't seem to healThis pain is just too realTheres just too much that time cannot earse
In GENERAL (not always) girls tend to have their major growth spurt around 11-13, they can continue to grow more following then or pretty much stop.

In general is right. I'm a late bloomer and from between 7th and 10th grade I sprung up almost 8 inches, 2 cup sizes (nothing to a full B almost C), and gained a healthy weight for my new height. My doctor hasn't said anything about me stopping any time soon. My mom's family is tall, my dad is a little bit shorter than my mom and his family is kinda short.OP: There is no set age, everyone is different, and there are extreme highs and lows on ANY age limit that anyone gives you.
Hmm. Interesting. My oldest sister says women are at their full size (mentally and physically) at 25. Seems believable because that's generally the legal age for lasik surgery and stuff with your brain and whatnot.
My moms friend says that I'm done growing b/c I got my period before, but I don't think so.
Even though everyone stops growing or starts growing at diff rates, I am 100 percent sure I have a lot more growing to do  My mom always makes fun of me and says "When will you get taller!" and it's funny but at the same time ..true.
I got my period when I was twelve. If I'd have stopped growing then, I'd be a whopping 4'8. My growth spurt came much later. I grew another ten inches over the next few years. That has to be the biggest error (or bs) I've heard in a while. Could your mom's friend have been teasing you?
I had heard the same thing as Jumpy's oldest sister. My younger sister has to wait to get foot surgery until she's in her mid-twenties, because she will still be growing until then, according to her doctor. Then again, it could just be that her FEET will grow until then, but I doubt it. I think girls keep growing a long time.
And off topic, for my own amusement: let's all picture 12-year old Halo, shorter than most elementary schoolers, with a woman's curves. I'm a 34B-36A now, and I've had the breasts since I was that age, but I know the smaller the ribcage, the bigger the cup size (I mean a 34A is smaller than a 38A). I must have been an F or something! And good thing I had to wear a uniform with a skirt, because I was a tomboy, but pants were out of the question, with my butt and hips throwing off my sizes!
Before anyone else tells me I'm pretty... This picture is of Amy Lee, my favorite singer.
Iv seen that scenario My best friends sister is 21 now, and still not 5 feet tall, she hasnt grown any taller in all the years Iv known her. Her mother is barely over 5 foot tall her self, they both have all the full grown features and curves, just not the tallness. Its not stopped either of them form making ag ood living or having thier choice of men.
Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.
well, this is just a general thing, but..my sister had an operation on her back a few weeks agoand her consultant told her before then (like months before), that she couldnt have the op until she'd stopped growingwhich was about 2 years after she started her periodsso i think you have a big growth spurt after you start your periodand carry on growing and changing untill your mid-twentiesand then you have me who hasnt grown any way but outwards since i was about 12-13
