So I went down to the health clinic today and got some birth control (my boyfriend and I have been planning on having sex since June, and I just figured I'd get some birth control to be extra safe. Since we haven't had sex yet, not a lot of opportunities to be alone, but it could happen any time now) and I was perscribed Ortho Tricyclen Lo. Anyways this is my first time on birth control and my periods have been fairly irregular I guess, used to be every two months, then they started coming once a month, then I got two periods last month 5 days apart. Anyways I want to start my pills as soon as possible (we'll still be using condoms, and then I have the morning after pill if anything goes wrong, but i'd just feel better if I had started birth control), and I don't want to wait for my period, because I have no idea when it will come, since it's been so irregular. And chances are we'll have sex sometime with in the month of August. Anyways is it ok to start my pills soon? I forgot to ask the nurse who gave them to me, it sounded like Sunday was appropriate, but can I take them earlier? Also has any one had good experiences from Ortho Tricyclen Lo? I'm a little worried about gaining weight and feeling sick.

Just got birth control, when to start?

You can start taking them any time, but you shouldn't have unprotected sex in the first month.

The one thing Id tell you based on my limited knowledge of the pill is this :When do you want to start your period ?you can pretty much determine when that will be based on what day you start taking them.wanna save it up and get that on mondays ? or prefer to have it hit ya on a friday night ?When ya run out of the pills and start the placebo ones, thats when the period hits ya, plan ahead a bit.Just something to consider along with that inteligible fsaid.

It really depends on the pill. There are a lot of brands where you can have unprotected sex after 7 days.
