You could draw parallels, yes, but the history of each country and its occupation is too unique for generalisations.
What bothers me about our situation here is that the majority of northern protestants insist that the part of Ireland they live in is 'british'. It isnt. Simple as that. Anybody with a query on the issue should take a look at an airel view of the island. Unless they are visually impaired, that should sort out the matter quite rapidly.
Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying these people shouldnt be here (some hard-liners would say that, but I dont support that view) These people have been here for generations and have every right to live here; what they dont have the right to do, in my view, is to insist that the part of the island they are living in is in fact a part of somewhere else. It's mental nonsense in my opinion! By that rationale, if I up sticks along with some number of my fellow Irish people and move to, say Japan, does that mean the enclave of Japan we occupy is now Ireland??!!
