Today my friend left for poland to stay for good and as a very nice gesture his father sold me his car for only 300 dollars its a 95 saab and the car looked to be in almost perfect condition we drove it around everything was good we made the deal the car is mine... about an hour later they leave the conutry and we take the gar to get some gas and as were coming back home it catches fire under the hood luckily we were able to stop the fire and there is some wire damage that can be fixed and thats about it. Now i am afraid to drive the car (this will be my first car as i am very close to getting my license) but i keep thinking it might be a sign to not drive the car or that 300 dollars was way to good of a deal for that car. What do you guys think?

Weird coincidence or warning?

Get a mechanic to check it out. We can't tell from here.
-
Good to hear from you, Muncher12!
Catching fire suggests something is wrong - it's not something that could happen any time, like (say) a flat tyre. It would be worth spending a bit of money having a trustworthy mechanic go over it. (You have to be careful - some people will find lots wrong just so you pay to have it fixed.)
You'll probably find there are some things that need fixing, but even if it needs a new engine, at $300 it was probably still a good buy.

Saabs tend to be in that class of car that just go forever and ever. It's probably worth investing a bit of money in it.Underhood fire sounds like a fuel leek. possibly at the regulator (assuming EFI) but that's just a guess.

What a saab (sob) story.
that's bad... that is really bad. It's even worse that you felt you needed to explain your pun parenthetically
I want you to stay for an hour after school to to work on your puns

Americans pronunce a lot of things differently than the rest of the world. It was actually a question in jeopardy, refering to how America is the only place where the name of this auto manufacturer is pronounced to ryme with "Sunday"

lol hyundai, though i always say it more as hun-die

please answer in the form of a question.
-
now what was the point of that? was it to throw the contestants off?
-
yup... hyundai is one of them. Most Canadins pronounce it closer to the correct pronunciation. I'll post more as they come to mind.
