I hope this will be a place where people from both sides of this issue can come to intelligently debate this important topic. I apologize if I've started a discussion that's been had before but I've never come across a discussion on these issues on afraidtoask and I'm very curious to hear what people think. What I'm trying to do is get an idea of why people hold the opinions they do. ... For the most part I can say that I am Pro LifeThe only circumstance in which I feel that a life should be ended is when another one is at stake.

Are you a Pro-life or Pro-choice...
-
**I am pro-choice.
Abortions: After having 3 children i can't imagine carrying a child i didn't want for whatever reason.........unfortunatly there will always be those who think that its an easy way out.
Euthanisa: I wouldn't/couldn't live being a burden on my family, i would rather die before i got too bad, or if i didn't have the means to communicate or quality of life i would rather not be here. ** -
I change my opinion on this on an almost daily basis...i agree entirely with what angel said regarding euthanasia, but my feelings on abortion are mixed. For example, a rape victim I think should have free choice. Anyone within a stable relationship with enough capability to look after a child, or willingness to give a child up for a adoption should not have too much say. I really can't draw up a conclusive argument for abortions - I am so against them, yet in many circumstances, very much for them. *sigh*
-
I'm both. I'm pro-life...abortion is murder, period. But, history has shown that you can't legislate morality...and making the right choice has no value unless making the wrong choice is an option. I prefer to keep abortion legal so that those who choose not to go there benefit from making such a choice...I don't want the government dictating what we can do anymore than they already do.

"Euthanisa: I wouldn't/couldn't live being a burden on my family, i would rather die before i got too bad, or if i didn't have the means to communicate or quality of life i would rather not be here."Once you open this pandora's box you'll never get it closed again. Once you grant others the right to decide if/when you should die, the rationale for such will be ever shifting in favor of those who have all the money in this world. Kiss retirement goodbye...as soon as you can no longer produce, you're history. If you are worried about quality of life, you always have the option of refusing life-saving treatment.

If I had to take a political position on the subject, I'm pro-life. But honestly, I would love to straddle the fence. To argue the political side of it:Methods of contraceptives have come a long way. There are male and female condoms, birth control, IUDs, etc.We all take a certain responsiblity when we have sex. With responsiblity comes a possible consequence. The part that gets hazy on this subject is "where does life begin?" In my opinion, it starts at conception. What bothers me the most is that a man has no say-so at all when it comes to the abortion issue. I hope to never be in the situation where a woman is carrying my child and decides to have an abortion because it would inconvenience her.
-
Well said, Mr.Sex god!

"I hope to never be in the situation where a woman is carrying my child and decides to have an abortion because it would inconvenience her."Been there, done that...and it'll be with me the rest of my life. It may be her body, but it's NOT just her child.
-
Thor:>I don't want the government dictating what we can do anymore than they already do.Really?? hmmmmAnd to the original question, I am pretty much pro-choice. It's something the woman is going to have to life with, whether down the road she felt it was a good choice or something she'll regret, her demon to carry. With that being said I do feel its murder, the child never asked to be conceived and yet punished because of it. If I was a straight male and my girlfriend/wife got pregnant and had an abortion I would be crushed and heart broken.
-
Pro choice all the way
-
Im stuck in the middleI think it's wrong.. but if i was in the situation id probably get an abortion.
-
Generally, I can say I'm against abortions and euthanasia, since you're taking away someone's life. But, I'm definately sure that no one can stick with the theory here and ideas can be easily changed depending the situation.

I'm kinda on the fence with this subject. I think that if someone is gonna be stupid enough not to protect themselves, they should have to deal with the consequences. And if they don't want the baby there are still other options such as adoption. However I think that if a girl gets pregnant as a result of rape then she should have every right to get an abortion seeing as its not her fault she got pregnant in the first place. Part of me thinks it should just be made legal though cause if someone really doesn't want that baby then they'll find any way they can to get rid of it. But if it is made legal, women should not be allowed to get the procedure done multiple times because at that point they are obviously not being smart about the chioces they make and are just using abortion as a regular form of birth control. As far as the "when an embryo is considered human etc." point of veiw i'm not sure, because nobody really knows for sure. Abortion overall sounds kinda wrong to me but, if it is made legal I think greater efforts to educate people about other methods of birth control should be made as well.

"It may be her body, but it's NOT just her child."This is true, and it is quite a sickening thing to me that the pro-choice lobby tries to make out that it is all about the womens body and ignore the fact that the real issue is about what is growing inside the womans body.If the reproductive roles of the genders could be swapped around and a man took the decision to murder my baby before it got a chance to draw its first breath in this world, well, I just cant imagine anything more horrifying than that.. But this happens every day and that it is legally sanctioned makes it all the worse. I really feel for men in that situation.

well, i feel that in the matter of abortion, if a girl has been raped then it will be very hard for her to give birth to the child. i had an argument ( yes, argument, not discussion ) with a 'friend' ages ago about it. i argued that if a girl had been raped she should give birth to the child and if she didnt want to raise it she should put it up for adoption. he said that the girl would fall in love with the baby and be caught in a moral dilemna. to attitudes to that i say, TS. rape is always tragic and sick, as is becoming impregnated through being raped, but a human life is a human life, and the baby didnt choose to be in a rapists' testicle. the same goes to issues like teen sex. if kids are going to fuck and then try to bail out when they get pregnant by killing a baby, i have no sympathy for them. a baby shouldnt die because dumbass kids cant use a rubber right. damn.and as for euthanasia- i believe its never appropriate to kill someone with euthanasia even if they beg or plead- i know how tragic it is for everyone involved, but, like, right now im saying i would want to be kept alive because i am very religious. but if i fell to a terminal illness and was in excruciating pain, id be begging my family to pull the plug on me. because my judgement would be skewed. although im a very religious person.so in summary, im pro life 100 percent

Pro-choice.
If it was my baby I'd have three possible views.
A. If I wanted the baby then from the moment of conception the entire focus of my world would be located in the womb of the woman that I love.
B. If I don't want it then I just look at the facts, up to a certain stage its just a cluster of cells.
C. If I wanted the baby, but the mother didin't, then I'd probably feel like A but force myself to think like B.

one of the sneaky things about the debate is the teminology of "pro-choice vs pro-life"Almost to suggest that pro-choice is synonomous with "anti-life"I am pro choice but I couln't imagine making that choice. My son makes me a better man. Also makes the 11.5 years I spent with fucktard seem like less of a waste

About the rape issue. What about the morning after pill? I know this can cause a chemical abortion, but it seems like a lot of people forgot about this possibility.I have been pro-life since I can remember, but something happened that reinforced my stand on the subject. My sister got pregnant and she had to face the tough decision of whether or not to get an abortion. She decided to have an abortion and the decision still plagues her today. He/She would be about 3 years old now. Walking around, asking why this and why that. Making the whole family smile at the things kids tend to do. I don't love my sister any less for having an abortion. I hate to see her miserable every time she thinks about what could have been if she made the other decision.

This is certainly an emotionally-charged discussion...> and a man took the decision to murder my baby before it got a chance to draw its first breath in this world...and it doesn't get much more emotional than that.Unsupervised is right: people try to stake out the moral high ground by labelling their opposition in a negative way. Is "pro-abortion" "anti-life", or is it "pro-abortion rights"? Is "pro-life" "anti-choice"?What does it mean when people say "life" begins? A sperm is alive. An unfertilized egg is alive. Does something happen the moment they combine? With cloning, an unfertilized egg is sufficient to produce a person. In fact, you should be able to clone someone by scraping a cell from their mouth. Are you in effect "killing babies" every time you brush your teeth?

What would you do if you knocked up your girlfriend, and she wanted to kill the innocent helpless child? Which you created!?
