Hey everyone,This is like my second post on the forums. I do however check out all the other forums and I find this site to be very informative and helpful.Anyways, lets get to the point: School is coming up, and ive been putting off getting fit all summer. I have been working construction so i am fairly built and stong, but i have yet to lose any visible fat.Recently ive been lifting weights and i came up with an interesting plan that i think should work well for me to lose fat and gain some muscle. Heres a general overview:-No more soda/energy drinks. Only water and fruit juices and/or gatorade when i need that boost of energy-Lots of reps with freeweights. I only have 20 pounders, but they seem to be building my muscles pretty good.-Situps and crunches. As many of each that i can do. -I do however need to get into some cardio workouts, as i want to have a visible six pack, but with the fat i have now, its impossible.-I plan to get my uncle's bowflex and treadmillTheres the general plan of mine. For the record i am 5'11" and weigh 190 or so. Also, one major downfall of mine is that i am a smoker. Therefore cardio workouts may prove to be difficult for me.One positive thing is that ive given up drinking for the most part. The carbs from beer and other liquor isnt what i need as of right now. I will however go out every once in a blue moon to party, but that another story.Any comments and suggestions are greatly appriciated.-Jared

You're worried about the carbs in beer, but you drink fruit juices? You might want to consider eating fruit and skipping the juice.> i am a smoker. Therefore cardio workouts may prove to be difficult for me.I certainly hope not. If that's true, then you might not be long for this world. You should really give cardio exercise it a shot, whether or not you smoke.

By fruit juices, i meant like orange juice. And only the good stuff. Nothing from concentrate.I didnt really have time to go over my diet at all, but i do eat fruit and ive cut back on the snack foods a lot.

I know what you meant. Orange juice has a very high glycemic index (i.e., it will make your blood sugar go up very quickly). It's not really much better than Hi-C, but at least it doesn't contain fake coloring. But the fact that orange juice is natural doesn't make it good to drink. You're much better off skipping the juice, and eating an orange instead. But if you do drink orange juice, it's best to have it with a heavy meal, rather than on an empty stomach followed by nothing.> i do eat fruit and ive cut back on the snack foods a lot.Excellent. And don't forget the veggies. You can take all kinds of healthy stuff, put it in a blender, and drink it. I'm sure HelmsmaN has some interesting recipes. Fresh fruit is pretty expensive, but your body really appreciates it.
