"Fahrenheit 9/11" Whats the big deal?
-
Yes, because that's exactly what you gave me in the InSearch topic. Open your smoke detector, Natasha, and get the Americium inside. Eat it.

It funny how kids our age buy into all of that bullshit! Not even 9/10 of that movie was fictional!
-
i'd say 2/5 was fictional

Everyone needs to read the book "Michael Moore is a Big Fat Stupid White Man" by James T. Hardy and Jason Clarke. They debunk everything in Fahrenheit 9/11, Bowling for Columbine, and Roger and Me. Read it and expand your mind. Here's an excerpt from the publisher:Watching Michael Moore in action -- manipulating facts in Bowling for Columbine, spinning statistics in Stupid White Men and Dude, Where's My Country?, shamelessly grandstanding at the Academy Awards, and epitomizing the hypocrisy he's made a king's fortune railing against -- has spurred authors David T. Hardy and Jason Clarke to take action. In MICHAEL MOORE IS A BIG FAT STUPID WHITE MAN (ReganBooks; ISBN 0-06-076395-7), Hardy and Clarke dish it back hard to the fervent prophet of the far left, turning a careful eye on Moore's use of camera tricks and publicity ploys to present his own version of the truth. The book is a scathing case against filmmaker and author Moore that will expose the misrepresentations and hypocrisy that have been characteristic of his career. With Moore's latest propaganda reel, Fahrenheit 9/11, coming to theatres in late June, the time is right for someone to take down Moore. The authors tackle four major recurring themes of Moore's career: * How Moore lashes out at critics and spins outlandish conspiracy theories around those who don't buy into his act hook, line, and sinker.* How Moore preaches to a congregation of blind followers, teaching them by example that facts and knowledge aren't necessary components of rabble-rousing rhetoric, and that it's more important to speak passionately than it is to speak intelligently. * How Moore bends the truth to fit his predetermined thesis, creating a false impression for a wide audience that takes in his message. * How Moore's career and public persona fit the textbooks definition of a Narcissistic Personality Disorder, pervading his works with a truly pathological combination of overwhelming egotism and self-loathing. The authors' state, "Moore shows the greatest disdain for that which he actually is... a very rich, pasty white American male." How, they ask, does Moore pull of a proletarian "man of the people" image so at odds with his lifestyle as a fabulously wealthy Manhattanite? And how large of an impact do his incendiary, ill-founded polemics have on the growing community that follows him with near-religious devotion?. All of this spurred authors Clarke and Hardy to ask themselves, "Dude, where's your integrity?"A sample of what appears in Michael Moore Is A Big Fat Stupid White Man:* A look back at Moore's early years- his real hometown, and the telling beginnings of his career, in which he was fired by Mother Jones magazine and Ralph Nader. * An in-depth analysis of Moore's narcisstic personality and his hypocritical obsession with the almighty dollar- motivations that factor into his outrageous public statements, twisted statistics, rambling open letters, and half-baked theories. * A careful study of the implications of Moore's larger themes- are his books, films, and public statements fodder for a terrorist mentality? * Vastly-expanded, scathing, and definitive debunking of Moore's most deceptive works: Bowling for Columbine Roger & Me Stupid White Men Dude, Where's My Country?

what's wrong with being a big fat stupid white man?

Nothing, anybody's entitled to be an asshole I guess.I just read that Michael Moore will not be allowed to be at the Democratic National Convention. Apparently they they see him as a liability and would try to steal the limelight from John Kerry.
-
What if you were president and a film maker made a propaganda film in attempt to take you out of office. The only way liberals have a chance of doing anything politically is by lying.
-
I've got no problem with anybody critcizing the President, we should be glad we can. In some countries you can go to prison for that or even be executed for doing that. The problem I have is that Michael Moore is an asshole and millions of people are kissing his ass. If anybody took the time to see what this guy is really about, he'd be a laughingstock. I don't necessarily think this guy's sole intent is trying to get Bush out of office, but to profit hugely from those who do, and to take credit for Kerry getting elected. If Kerry does indeed get elected, be on the lookout for Moore because he will claim that because of him and his movie, he was able to convince millions of people to vote for Kerry (or more correctly, against Bush). He will say he is a great patriot and an American hero and they should worship him because he is the most important person in the U.S. Believe me, that can and will happen, if Kerry wins. Just when you think his head couldn't get any bigger.
Moore constantly critisizes capitalism and big business screwing the little guy, but he himself is living it up, becoming very wealthy and stepping on and over everyone who stands in his way. He is a hippocrite. He has betrayed lifelong friends, blackmailed and ambushed others all for the sole purpose of making money and promoting himself. Go ahead and smear somebody and ruin their reputation. Why? Because it helps the story along. He seeks notoriety more than anything. He feeds off it. He is a narcissist in the most extreme sense. He even managed to piss off his supposed childhood idol, Ray Bradbury, who wrote Fahrenheit 451, by ripping off the title of his famous book. He had conversed with Bradbury and was told not to use the title Fahrenheit 9/11, and Moore said he wouldn't because he didn't want to upset Bradbury, but he apparently changed his mind because he used it anyway. Bradbury wants an apoligy and Moore won't give it to him. Moore doesn't care. It's all about him. That's all that matters.
It does bother me that everyone seems to extreme in their adherence to his messages. They almost seem to accept Moore as the Messiah, and everything he says must be true and that he's preaching the gospel. (Please understand this is a metaphor. I really hope that nobody out there thinks he's some kind of religious figure because that would really be messed up.) At times he preys on the ignorance of his "loyal subjects" because they won't question anything he says because they don't have any reason to. For example, in his film, Bowling for Columbine, he portrayed Charleton Heston as a racist, when in fact Heston was a good friend of Martin Luther King, Jr. and was very active in the civil rights movement. Of course, with the sad state of education in this country, most people of our generation would never know that. Many got rather outraged by the way Heston came off in that film, thanks to the creative editing Moore and his cronies did.
This film reminds me a lot of the Nazi propaganda Hitler used prior to WWII. You had a country whose economy was in the toilet (mostly thanks to World War I) and he was able to get the support of the disenfranchised and over time was able to get a whole nation of people to rally behind him. Then look at what happened. What he said didn't have to be true as long as enough people believed it. You should be amazed at the power of millions of like-minded individuals. And it took the whole world to stop him.
I see Moore's work as propaganda. Not necessarily for political change itself, but because he can take credit for what political change may appear to come from it. I hope anyone who sees his films or reads his books takes a moment to think about what he is saying. He does not produce documentaries stating fact. He produces op/ed pieces and people need to realize that. Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story, so they say.
I never saw JFK, but we need to recall that even though that movie was controversial, it wasn't accepted by millions as fact. It was a movie with a certain point of view and pretty much everybody understood that. Of course, it also helped that the topic was about something that occurred decades earlier. Can you imagine what would have happened if that movie came out in the 1960s? It might have been the biggest controversy in U.S. history.

in Iceland we have it but my parents wouldnt let me see it. They are very republican and hate michael moore
-
Are you originally from Iceland or the U.S.? It seems odd to me for there to be republicans in Iceland unless they're Americans.
I don't exactly see the point of screening this film overseas, other than Michael Moore profiting from the anti-Americanism he is promoting.

The thing I don;t like about it is that it's supposedly a documentary. A One Sided argument is what it should be called. They're only showing the side of the people who hate the president, it's completely Anti-Bush. Seriously....I'm sick of the people who hate Bush. Not that I hate them, I'm just getting tired of it. I mean, everyone is just mad that he won the election. People hate Kerry as well, but they'rre gonna vote for him just b/c Bush won, which is pathetic. Out of the entire popultaion of the US, only 1/2 of them are able to vote, and out of the 1/2, only 1/4th of that actually votes. So, out of the whole of US, only 1/8th of the US REALLY votes. So, if Kerry looses, which I know he will, everyone should know why, b/c only 1/8th of the U really votes. Also, I think Kerry just lost NY's vote.......RED SOCKS FAN! DIEEE!
-
Were from the US. but right now were living in iceland
-
Kerry's wife will be busted for tax evasion and go to prison. You heard it here first.

This is directed at everyone, not just no1sexpotinusa
...I am voting for Bush. Life is great. I run my own business, making more money than I ever have in my life, I was able to pay off my student loans, so now I am 100% debt free, I will be buying a house in a few months.
I also have several relatives in the miliary serving in Iraq and Afghanistan right now (although not immediate family). I agree with both wars. Why? Because its the right thing to do. Some Americans are so selfish...they don't give a damn about anybody living elsewhere in the world. I sometimes feel that the young people today were around during World War II, they'd oppose going to war with Nazi Germany because "it's none of our business and Americans are going to die." America is the only country capable and willing to send billions of dollars and all the manpower to other countries to fight terrorism, religious extremism and persecution, famine, genocide, fascism, communism, and despotism that plague the world. While the UN sits on their ass counting all the cash they've made from the Oil for Food Program (Kofi Annan is one of the most corrupt people in this world), tens of millions of people in the world are being murdered, starving to death, and being sold into slavery (this still happens in some third world countries, most commonly women from poor contries, in South America, Asia, Africa and Europe, being forced into prostitution). Sure the U.S. has problems of their own to contend with, but you need to realize that we can't focus 100% of our attention on ourselves. If you see a man lying in the street dying of a gunshot wound, do you let him be or do you call 911? Now multiply that by several million and I hope you see what I am getting at. You can't turn a blind eye and let the world suffer. Too many other countries are doing that already. And if you don't try to fight terrorism, our way of life may cease to exist.
Bush has proven to be good leader. A lot of people will put him down because he served in the National Guard during the Vietnam War, but Clinton ditched the country and Kerry possibly took part in gunning down innocent civilians. People don't like Bush because of the way he talks. That's a Texas accent, so are people saying Texans sound stupid? The man graduated from Yale. How many of you have done that? He's ran large corporations. Stupid people don't do that. He's also been governor of Texas. And if anybody says he stole the election in 2000, I'm going to bitch-slap you because you apparently don't know what the electoral college is and that the Constitution says that's how elections are to run. Stop your whining. Let's focus on this election and not on one in the past.
That being said, I think Kerry isn't too much different than Bush on a lot of issues. He supported the war in Iraq, he wants to fight terrorism, and a whole bunch of stuff he is for Bush is also for. If he does get elected, don't expect a lot of changes. I do expect Michael Moore to start attacking Kerry though. I mean, do you expect this guy to stop? Hell no, he lives for attacking people.
I do take offense to you saying Republicans hate people more than Democrats. What do you base that on? I've never seen more hateful people that oppose Bush than any other group in my lifetime. I've got nothing wrong with people critizing the President (be glad we can) but there seem to be too many people who seem to make their only reason for being is to hate Bush.

DesertFoxAZ, I love you. I want to have your babies.

In reply to:I sometimes feel that the young people today were around during World War II, they'd oppose going to war with Nazi Germany because "it's none of our business and Americans are going to die."Actually that is exactly what happened in World War II, and not just from young people. The US was neutral for more than two years during the Second World War, to the point of refusing to sell desperately needed US-surplus warships to Britain. The general feeling in the US at the time was exactly that it wasn't the US's war. The US only entered the war after it was itself attacked 2 1/4 years after the war started. Even then there was a strong feeling that the US should only be at war with Japan, only overridden by Rooseveldt's personal insistence.
-
Yeah Ineligible beat me to it, that's how I've always read the history as well. If Japan had not attacked Pearl Harbor, we wouldn't have entered the war when we did, if at all. The US was not involved much in foreign affairs at all back then.As for the topic, Michael Moore tends to put a bunch of lies together and call it a 'documentary', so I haven't seen 9/11. Bowling for Columbine did it for me, I was ashamed to have spent my money on that one.Maybe if I can get 9/11 for free... Edit: obsessive about typo's... ;p
-
Uh, I don't think that's possible
-
Hmm, well, by the middle of 1940, almost a year and a half before the US entered the war, almost the whole of Western Europe was either controlled by the Axis or in the hands of neutral governments determined to make no trouble for the Axis, and the US was apparently prepared to accept that.To be fair, they probably wouldn't now.
