I have been taking Zoloft for a while and have noticed that I have trouble getting and erection. I used to get an erection from just seeing a hot girl and now very very rarely. I have noticed that I masturbate alot less than I used to, probably once every 1 or 2 weeks.Does taking Zoloft cause permanent erectile disfunction? I need advice, what should I do? I am embarrased to talk about this to my doctor but I know I have to do something..help me please!

Erectile Disfunction from Medication

Yes, Zoloft is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI), and they do decrease libido, make it harder to get hard, and harder to cum. There are some new antidepressants now that don't have this side-effect. The best-known is bupropion (Wellbutrin); there is also reboxetine (Edronax, Norebox, Prolift, Solvex, Vestra) and tianeptine (Stablon) and a couple of others. You should talk to your doctor - the pharmaceutical industry, not before time, has become aware that the sexual side-effects of SSRIs are a serious disincentive to their use, and the subject is now one that is talked about.

So is this permanent? Will I ever have my libido like I used to have before? Or atleast close to it?

It lasts as long as you are on the medication, and gets back to normal when you stop it, or change to one of the newer non-SSRI antidepressants.

Hey bro - definately talk to your doc about this. A change in dosage sometimes helps - as does switching meds. There is no need to experience the loss of erection and libido to overcome the need for meds. Do yourself a favor man - just talk with the doc, they hear this alot and it is very common with these meds.
