What is a normal, healthy, uncut penis supposed to look like when erect? Is the foreskin supposed to go all the way down so the head is exposed? Does it matter if, when it's erect, there is still an "overhang" of foreskin even though it can be retracted far down the shaft?

What's it sposed to be like?

For many guys the foreskin automatically retracts when they get erect. For others it has to be retracted manually. Both seem to work just as well.

There is no normal, because all foreskins are individual and slightly different. There is no muscle in the penis or foreskin to make it retract, soft or stiff and so it works very well in a variety of different ways. There is a natural area of tightness at the tip, which along with the frenulum, is designed to keep it forward over the glans.Generally speaking, the shorter and looser the foreskin is, and depending how much the penis exands when stiff, the more chance that, on erection, it will expose the glans to some degree. This can be from just showing the tip of the glans all the way to fully slipping behind the glans rim.If the foreskin is naturally longer, or the tip of the foreskin is tighter, then even with a stiffie, the foreskin will remain forward over the glans in the normal position.Quite often, with penetration, the foreskin will retract when entering, but if the tip is quite tight, it still might remain forward. Some folks wish their foreskin worked differently, others are happy with it just the way it is and still others dream of having it removed through the circumcision operation. What I was always taught was to enjoy and be happy with what you have, however, if something about your foreskin is causing distress to you, then it is wise to ask a doctor about it.

As long as you can retract your foreskin comfortably with your hand sliding it back while erect so that the entire glans (head) shows, then you have a normal, healthy uncut penis. If you can retract the foreskin all the way down the shaft, that's fine too, but it's not necessary. It's OK for the foreskin to be bunched up behind the ridge of the head while retracted, as long as the head is fully exposed. It's also not necessary for the foreskin to retract automatically when you get erect - that generally depends on how short or long of a foreskin you have. Usually, guys with shorter foreskins will retract automatically when they get hard, while guys with longer foreskins will remain covered when they get hard, until they pull their foreskin back manually. Both are completely normal.
