Sorry...there was another thread Ntro started, that I had posted a (possible) solution in, which is where I had meant to put this. Serves me right for not reading the thread before I replied. My bad. edit: Nevermind, I guess the thread doesnt exist any longer...now that I think about it it was right when we were making the transition to the new site so it must have been deleted...

here is one of many links

Its anti virus, anti malware, adn anti spyware. daily updates, free to try, and uses alot less resources on your computer than norton.Google AVG, they have a welcome page that shows all the latest shit and has definitions and risks factors on the latest threats, its a good place to look into shit fairly often even if you dont use the product.

There is no link there ! now go edit !

Go here. AVG is a good antivirus program that doesn't use the huge resources that Norton does. It has a pretty clean interface, although it uses two separate windows that should be one...a minor complaint. The free version will leave a Yahoo-mail-like message at the bottom of your incoming and outgoing mail, if you use a POP mail client.

hmm looks interesting, although i already have Defender Pro

Are you referring to Windows Defender? I was never able to get that thing to work on my computer.
Norton AntiVirus is a major resource hog. AVG is a lot easier on it.
I prefer to use virtualization for anything questionable... such as using a P2P program like napster was once. I find that virtualization is a really great solution for a lot of problems. Backing up especially easy, considering Microsoft's Virtual PC consists of 2 or 3 files (.vhd .vmc .vmv files). Copy the 3 files over to an external hard drive or some other form of media and you're backed up. And VMware is easy to backup too. It has several files... but better than a few thousand files like a usual backup consists of. The other benefit is I can have a base copy just in case my virtual machine gets infected by a virus (which I have yet to encounter). This is similar to imaging a machine... without the hassle of booting to symantec ghost, altiris, or some other imaging program. Just copy your base Virtual Machine, paste it over the one you currently have, and viola!
