dont leave it alone, i know from personal experiance it hurts like shit. DIY isnt gonna work here. u need to go to the doctor and mostlikely theyll cut the side of ur toenail thats effected off for you. if u leaveit it it could get infected, and its not a pretty sight. go 2 the doctor

haha i'm so used to car forums and DIY stuff! anyhowi had the same thing, for ages! and i was gonna see the doctor but one day i got real annoyed at the toenail and just sorta cut the skin with my fingernail! it hurt but it was a good releiving hurt and it fixed it hahahaha. i was so suprised. i probably did the wrong thing and am lucky that i didnt make things worse. you're call!!!

I've been told that if you wedge some cotton wool under the sides of the nail you can train the edges of the nail upwards. But if it's really bad you probably have to get the sides cut out under local anaesthetic.

i think i'll just tell my mom i got ANOTHER infected toenail in the same spot, much beter than telling her that the one that i had a year and a half ago never went away

I've had 10 ingrown toenail removal sugeries(in total, both sides on both toes.. didn't know that kind of thing was genetic) because my insurance company didn't want to give me the permanent surgery. I recommend getting it removed, but a warning.. foot injections are uber painful. I finally got the permanent procedure done on the "inside" sides of both toes.
