Check with your local cable company, its differn't in every state
-
cable is probably the best way to go...over in my neck of the woods we're able to get it through the electrical lines, all you have to do is plug the modem into the wall socket
-
whats the diffrents between CABLE and DSL?
-
Cable, you can get it through your existing cable lines. has nothing to do with your phone lineDSL, comes through your phone linesCorrect me if I'm wrong, but thats how I remeber it. I personally have cable, and its great!

Comcast(cable) is the best

The best ISP is your local ISP.DSL travels through phone lines on a higher frequency than the voice (telephone) part of the line.Cable, or coax whichever you prefer, travels down copper cabling. As far as what form of transfer it is, I'm not sure.In the battle of Coax vs DSL, it really depends on your needs. Coax and DSL supply about the same download speed. It really depends on your distance from your ISP. Although, Coax almost always has a faster upload speed than DSL.Personally, I prefer the three T1 lines at work. 5 meg a second is yummy.

Just because the ISP is local doesen't make it better. The hardware the ISP uses makes a difference, the amount of suscribers using the ISP at one time makes a difference, yeah the ISP being closer helps but anywhere within 400-500 miles will be sufficient. The closer you are to your local exchange the better, i think the optimum range is like 1/3rd of a mile, any further and things start to go downhill.Again though there are many factors in how good your connection will be outside of your ISP. All i can sudgest is read reviews from ISP customers or whatever, i dunno any yank sites for that but i'd assume there are some. As a general rule, the BIG ISPs don't generally offer the best performance, although for general use, ie you download stuff like music etc, it doesen't really matter what ISP you use as long as its reliable, but if you use the connection for downloading films, having the better connection makes things quicker, but if you use your connection to play games its a good idea to research the different ISPs and speak to like minded people about what ones are best. Like if your buying a car, if you do your research you'll get the best deal at the lowest price.

Most of the time the equipment at the ISPs are about the same. The main thing is PING.
