Guys being tested?

I believe a blood sample test, maybe semen.... YOu can get HIV from different sources (usually blood). But it's most likely your bf was not a virgin before he met you.

There is no HPV test. Matter of fact there is no test specifically for HPV for men or women that doctors readily use. Women get PAP smears, but the PAP is not a test for HPV. Rather it shows abnormalities that can be casued by HPV.

I beleive there is a test for HPV for women. I know I get tested every time I get a Pap smear because I had an abnormal pap a few years back. I had to get cancer cells scraped off. It is definately two seperate tests though. And generally women under 30 do not get the HPV test routinely unless a pap has come back abnormal.
In reply to:
You may not know that your cervix is infected with HPV until a Pap test shows abnormal cells. When you have a Pap test (or "smear"), the doctor scrapes some cells from your cervix and looks at them under a microscope
In reply to:
How does the doctor test for HPV?
The doctor rubs a small swab against your cervix and puts the swab in a tube of special liquid. This tube goes to a lab. If the lab finds HPV in the liquid, your doctor will know what HPV type you have.
There is more info here: http://familydoctor.org/389.xml and here http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/hpv/test.html
This is what I found out about testing for men:
In reply to:
Can men be tested for HPV?
At present there is no reliable test to demonstrate the presence of the virus in men.Can men be treated?
This is unnecessary (just as it is in women) unless the virus develops into clinical warts (growths), which project above the surrounding skin.
And I got that info from here: http://www.cancerscreening.nhs.uk/cervical/hpv.html

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) released guidelines in August 2003 recommending that women 30 years or older be offered the HPV DNA test in addition to their Pap smear and pelvic exam. Thanks for the links. OK so I stand corrected. There is a test, but I'm sure it's not used often probably due to cost. I see that it is/was recommended to be offered in 2003. I don't believe it was readily available when we dealt with it years back and research has made lots of progress lately. Many women mistakenly think they are being tested for HPV when they go in for a routine PAP smear. That is not the case.
