Okay this is my problem, Im sorry if i write too long:I've never been happy with my appearance (and thatswhy im also depressed). The problem is my nose, and since I was 5 years old I've been noticed its uglyiness and the way it messes up my face. It is big (wide and long) and it has a bump. It looks a bit like a mans nose I've tried in photoshop how my nose would look like with a small change (the nose tip smaller) and it would look absolutely beautiful, because it changes the nose completely! Its been keeping me down for so much time, because eventually I will never be happy with it, if it stays like it is - Im just not that kind of person. When I smile, it goes really-really wide and its also slightly turned to the right. It isnt pretty and people have (really) mentioned it.But the problem is Im only 16. Nah Im not just a teenager, who sees everything about herself bad, I actually like my eyes and body. But people just stare at my friggin nose first! My other family members have that kind of noses too and my mother also had the same problem as a teenager. So can a 16 yr old have a rhinoplasty job done? I would really want to.And how would you react, if you're shy classmate would get a rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty

If people are making fun of you for having a big nose getting plasic surgery may fuel the fire. Kids look for anything to make fun of no matter how petty. I guess you could always say you broke your nose or somthing like that at school so no one would know.

Getting a nose job would kinda be a red flag to a bull, or any class room bully in this case because they do look for weaknesses in your selfconfidence. Getting a nose job would be like telling them that this is what you hate about yourself, giveing them amunition.I think you need to realise that this is a much bigger deal to you then it is everybody else. Your've picked out a feature that dosn't fit the "Norm" or what is considered beautiful and become obsessed about it. People saying something about it were probably just trying to put you down to make themselves feel better and assumed that your nose would be something youd be self conscience about. If you really can't get over it, fine, go for the nose job but I don't see that going down well with your classmates. I presume that no-one would preform this procedure untill they were sure you had stopped growing or about 18.Just remember, It's our differences that make us beautful and unique. Something that dosn't fit in with the norm isn't ugly, and only narrow minded people see it that way.I'm sure your a beautiful girl who just need abit more self confidence and needs to focus on everything you love about yourself rather then obsessing about one physical feature.Having said that, If I were in your shoes and determaned to get this done, I'd wait till I'd finnished highschool and have it done in your summer break. This way you could start out fresh in college or a job or whatever you want to do and no one would know the old you to make the comparisum to your "old nose" to tease you about it.
-
A lot of older teens get nose jobs. You need to wait until your face finishes growing. That typically means age 15 or 16, so you might qualify. A plastic surgeon would have to examine you and make the determination.
More info from a plastic surgeon.
More info from Johns Hopkins Univesity's Cosmetic Center.
You didn't say anything about classmates giving you a hard time, so I don't see why people are making such a big deal about it. I'd be surprised if many of them cared about your nose, one way or the other.
If you have the money, and your heart's set on getting your nose adjusted, then check it out with a good plastic surgeon. (This would not be the time to look for a bargain.)

You didn't say anything about classmates giving you a hard timeWRONG!>>>And how would you react, if you're shy classmate would get a rhinoplasty.
-
Well, not in this thread. In either case, I stand by what I said. A nose job is not that big a deal. Really, she can do what she wants...a nose job is not that big a deal.
-
Shows alot of cultural difference dosn't it. In America I'm sure it's not that uncomon for school age people to get a nose job. Here, It's unusual for people of any age to get any cosmetic opperation.
-
In the U.S. it's very common. Where I live, it's very, very common. The original poster sounded American to me....I don't know how it is in Canada.
-
I think it's abit sad that teenage girls feel that bad about themselves that they need to get an operation so they'll look more like what they think is attractive. And I think it's even more sad that there are places where that's common and acceptable.
-
You think it's sad that the United States exists?Do you ever wear makeup? Are you concerned about the clothes you wear?
-
Yes, I think it's pretty sad that the U.S exists. And I think makeup is alitle less drastic then paying a shite load of money to undergo an un-nessesary opperation so you nose is a tiny bit smaller when most people probably wouldn't give a flying fuck how big your nose is.Why do you ask Steve? Do YOU ever wear makeup and are concerned about the clothes you wear?
-
I don't have an issue with being concerned with one's own appearance; I have an issue with being obsessed with one's appearance. It just seems hypocritical to think that your flavor of body modification (shaving, piercing, tattooing, painting your face) is OK, but other people's are not (nose job, etc.) is not. It seems pretty provincial. In either case, the person is concerned about her apperance. For safety, I'd put my money on a nose job over a tongue piercing.> Yes, I think it's pretty sad that the U.S exists.Bwa ha ha, tough shit! The U.S. isn't going anywhere any time soon.
-
My flavour of body modification dosn't involve going through a serious opperation and I don't feel I NEED it to feel better about myself.( and for the record, tatoos and tougue peircings are not my particular flavour of body mod.)>>>Bwa ha ha, tough shit! The U.S. isn't going anywhere any time soon. Well thats debateable. I think the chance of the U.S blowing itself up or being blown up is reasonanbly good. And in that case you would be going somewhere, all over the world in millions of tiny peices.
-
So then you'd criticize someone for getting a tattoo or a piercing? How about someone who spends a ton of money and goes through a lot of effort to wear braces to straighten his teeth? A nose job is not like putting on a pair of pants, but it's as routine as some dental procedures.
A nose job is also a lot less risky than some piercings are. You have a problem with it because it's not "normal" for you. It's a narrow-minded attitude.
> I think the chance of the U.S blowing itself up or being blown up is reasonanbly good.
If that happens, the rest of the world is coming along for the ride. The rats and roaches will prosper, though.
-
Braces are often used to correct overbites etc, not just streighening your teeth.I don't have a "problem" with it, What ever tickles your fance, I more have a problem with the society that has created the desider to have somthing that drastic done.painting your face, tatoos and peirceings are a form of body modification that have been round for many years. I don't have a problem with carrying on that tradition I'm having an opinion, that's not the same as being narrow minded.>>>The rats and roaches will prosper, though. Ahh natural selection at it's best. Bring on the new world of rodents and insects.
-
Braces are often used to correct overbites etc, not just streighening your teeth. And braces are often used for aesthetic reasons.> I'm having an opinion, that's not the same as being narrow minded. When you have an opinion that's narrow-minded, then you have a narrow-minded opinion.Do you shave your legs every day? What do you think about people who wax them? Get electrolysis? Get laser hair removal? That's pretty drastic for a condition that causes no harm. My legs have hair and they are perfectly happy that way. How can you stand to live in a society that won't tolerate something as natural and harmless as leg hair? And we won't even talk about what women (and now men) do with their pubic hair these days...not traditional, unless you're Muslim.A nose job is not like putting on foundation, blush, rouge, eye liner, false eyelashes, and curling or straightening your hair, but it's not a major procedure either, at least if it's done for aesthetic reasons.
-
Im only narrow minded if I'm not open to other points of veiw. As far as I can see I haven't said "No Steve, your wrong" at any point. No, I don't shave everyday because I don't care enough to do so.It is a major procedure compared to putting on foundation.I actually think the nose job - Cosmetic braces is a good comparisum. I see your point.
-
Happy happy joy joy! We're all in agreement! What say you, Homicidal.possum?
-
I didn't say I agreed, I just said I see where you're coming from
-
Close enough.
