Are you referring to the Genetic debate, or perhaps the environmental discussion? The determining factor in deciding whether a person is gay, or for the matter, straight, is emotional attraction and attatchment to a person. If you can see yourself loving another boy and living with them for life...then there is some homosexuality in a person.

As far as I am aware, nobody has ever discovered what 'makes' a person gay or straight. What 'determines' a person as gay or straight is their sexual inclinations and behaviours, but I have no idea what actually 'makes' a person gay or straight in the first place, and I'd be more than surprised if anybody on here could answer that question for you, sorry!

It seems to be largely something that we're born with and the way our brain grew. There's so much debate on the topic and there's no definite answer. I'm not sure how much genetics determine it, but it may have something to do with a chance occurance in pregnancy or hormone levels before birth. I may also just be behaviour that people tend towards through what they're exposed to in life, but research seems to tend towards predisposition at birth. The best answer, without doing a ton of research and to truly represent the uncertainty on the topic, is that no one knows for sure.

my theory is that during the making up of DNA in the fetus the proteins and enzymes that make up testerone get messed up and give you sexual feelings towards the "wrong" gender.. also a life changing experience can make someone gay.*remember every awkward silence, a gay baby is born lol

Neither of those ideas makes much sense at all. I suggest you find some articles on the subject. Some pointers to articles have been posted on this site; you might try searching.

I think people are born gay. I honestly don't believe that anyone would choose to be gay due to the backlash it would cause.

I profess my ignorance on the origin of "gayness." From my limited exposure I have sofar pieced it together as having 2 "causes" or both.1) A genetic predisposition to homosexuality, simply you are born the way you are. This challenges the argument in regards to how a child is raised and the effects on his or her sexual inclination.2) Child-Development: A child could theoretically "become" inclinded to the same sex before sexual inclinations develop. Our society, for better or worse, forces gender roles on us. Girls play with dolls are usually more co-operative and willing to compromise, boys don't have dolls... they are called action figures and usually more bold and assertive. If a boy's surroundings place him in a position where he is surrounded by the gender role of the opposite sex he may be inclined to adopt those qualities. Later in life as he matures he may be inclined to find condtioned male qualities (bold, brash, assertive) to be attractive and a fondness for men develops.3) Both 1 & 2 occur.DISCLAIMER!!! I don't offer the above as fact, just my speculation and I do say I am quite likely to be wrong on both counts! I don't mean to offend anyone!
