What kind of work do you do that has your feet in such a bad way - are u always standing during ur work. I had a job where i would be walking (around a building that is) for the majority of an 8 hour shift and it use to kill my feet. Do u look after your feet say after work - like say putting the m in warm water to soothe themon what Rengaw87 said about the law - here in Ireland you cant work more than 4 hours without 15min break so i couldnt believe that its 8 hours with u

I'd say god bless the Canadian labour laws. After 6 hours you get a 15 minute break. At 8 or more you get a half hour, and 15 minutes, at anything at 10 or over you get a half hour, plus two 15 minute breaks (or another half)8 Hours without a break is just cold. Anybody who allowed that law to go through obviously never worked a real job before.

I work 9 to 10 hour days with just one break and i'm always on my feet doing heavy lifting you just have to live with it. Maybe buy some comfortable shoes that support your feet well

I dont think US Federal law enforces a paid break period. It's usually state mandated. Most states have a 10 min per 4 hour work period law. I would look at your state's labor laws and confirm this. We are talking about authorized paid break periods. I don't know what you are doing but you should be allowed to take a 10 minute break. This does not entirely allow you to be derelict of your duties though. As in you can't just close a store you are managing for 10 minutes and come back. I'm not entirely sure the scope of the law in those situations like say you are an emergency dispatcher with no backup. I think in some states they are required to provide backup for you regardless of the nature of the job. It should also be addressed in the job description/contract for employment. As stated too you should get some comfortable shoes. Standing in heels for the entire evening is ludicrous. If you have a dress code, try to find some comfortable flat shoes that are acceptable. It's your first job and most of us have unfavorable memories of our first jobs. If the conditions really bother you and especially if you do not feel safe, then start looking elsewhere. good luck.
