When making a post on someones thread, instead of saying "I think he/she meant....." hows about saying "I think what Fred/Freda (insert real name here) was saying is ........If you were in a "real" room situation would you refer to some-one in earshot as he/she?Please consider
-
Just a thought on ettiquette
-
I wouldn't say "him" or "her", but if there was no ambiguity, I'm not sure what the problem is with "he" and "she". I still feel a little weird calling people by their screen names. It feels like we're in a role-playing game. I suppose that doesn't apply to my user ID.
-
That would depend on how close I felt to the person I suppose.
-
Well if the're in the room, I think it's OK to say" I get where Steve/Pepsi is comeing from"Just manners me mom taught me
-
Usually I'd say that too, but I think it's sometimes ok to say 'I get where he/she is coming from' also, depending on the person and the situation. And I do think manners are important too, just incase you thought I was disagreeing on that!
-
*sniffle* I wasn't even in the room!!! Star, what is he talking about...
I think it all depends on what is going on with the thread.
-
We're talking about the difference between being in a real life situation and a chatroom etc.. I think the thing to remember is that you really cant equate the two, so dont let anyone worry you about it babe, xx!
-
Wasn't refering to you pepsi, just a point to ponder for all
-
smak lol, you missed my teasing..
-
I think he said/she said also creates a division and an us and them mentality
-
Explain please??
-
Did you just give me an almightly clatter? *little baby clatter* (cause I wouldnt give you an almighty one) LOL
-
real life lacks many of the major game qualities I've coem to know and love, I mean, no health bar, no ammo counter, no FPS counter, and what if i get lag out there! theres no respawns! theres no med kits, and do you realise how hard it is to find wepons in this map????? on a lighter note...I GOT A GIRLFRIEND!!!!!!!!! I asked her if she wanted to go out and she said yes!!!! HAPPY DANCE!!!! sorry, Its off topic, but you guys know how it is
-
When someone uses the term "he said/she said " in a response, its kind of like whispering about someone else on the other side of the room
-
I'm talking about responding to a particular persons comment and attributing it to them directly and in company. I get where you’re coming from, but what I’m talking about is a different thing.
-
I think buzzie was implying that as the thread expeands, "he/she" becomes confusing. As far as real names vs screen names, I'm happy to be addressed by my screen name or a variation there of. If I wanted to be refered to by my real name here in the open forum, I would have used it as my screen name
-
Yes Ricardo, I see where you're coming from. (By the way, buzzie69, "etiquette" has only 3 t's, total.)
-
here it might be considered nicer by some, to call them by their screen names or something other than their real name to identify them, seeing as some would prefer to stay anonymous, lest someone they know see the name and read the posts sometimes ill refer to them by their name if i know it, or screen name
-
If people put their name in their profile, then it's OK to call them by that, Daniel. Some people prefer to be called by their real name.
-
yes, but i also may slip if i know that persons real name
