I've been trying to find credible/reliable sources on the net but every site has a catch or wants you to buy somethings so I'm not overly eager in placing my faith in their information!Basically I am a 20 year old guy. In high school I had great hair. Chicks loved it, it was thick and wavy. Now it isn't medium at best and it doesn't have that wave it used to. I am pretty sure it has receeded just a little bit but not much. Baldness is HUGE on my mother's side and I know it's the mother's side that determines your hair throughout your life.Because of a lot of other insecurities I was very proud of my hair! What I'm looking for is healthy ways to maintain healthy hair, thicken hair, slow down/stop hair recession or balding, and get my wave back!If anyone has any methods or products they've found worked well I'd be eager to here about it! Especially when it comes to shampoo/conditioners and styling products. The other idea I've been toying with is I used to have wavy hair then I went through a short hair phase, maybe I just "forgot" how to style my hair in a wavy fashion. Any of you know how to do that?much thanks!

Who said that it's the mother's side that determines your hair throughout life?

I've heard that it's the mother's side of the family that determines how a woman's hair will turn out. Not sure if there has been any scientific study on that (Steve?).

WebMD:o Hair Loss - Preventiono inherited hair loss (How pattern baldness is inherited: See #2, "Pattern Baldness In Humans: A Sex Influenced Trait", on this page.)

Unfortunately none of the above has helped me! I know what baldness is =P and I know some of the causes =PI'm looking for ways to maintain what I have or stop it altogether. That and ways to style it in a wave fashion again.

Other than taking Propecia or using Monoxodil (or generic equivalent), I'm not sure that there's anything known to have any effect on hair loss, although lots of people will be happy to sell you things that don't work. There are also ways to hide hair loss, like spays (remember that Ronco stuff?), powders, hair weaves, and hair pieces. A hair transplant would be a permanent (but expensive) solution; I'm not sure if it would make much sense to do that until it really thinned out. It's kind of like trying to keep the tide from going out.Another alternative is to accept yourself however much hair you have. I haven't noticed, with the people I know, that guys with less hair aren't getting dates. Every guy I can think of in my father's family is bald, and they're all married. My friend was almost completely bald by the time he was in his early 20's, and he had no trouble getting dates (he's now married, and has started and cashed out of three high-tech companies).

I have the same problem man! I had the hottest hair in grade school leading into early high school and now I find my hairline slightly receding and the baldness is rampant on BOTH sides of my family (on my moms side no guys has hair left!)I started to cut down on hair gel/wax/mousse use as much as possible (stopped putting it on after a shower, unless I was going out) I started to wash my hair every other wash and before taking a shower (about an hour-2 hours) I'd put some coconut oil in my hair and then wash it off. It's been said that coconut oil is good for hair growth. My hair feels thicker now and I have started using some hair products. I usually use the Garnier Fructis shampoo + conditioner, it's been working great for me.Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.Cheers!
