ok...im on the pill currently....and in addition my bf and i always use a condome whenever we have sex....the reason we use both methods is because of the pregnancy issue....we would both be royaly screwed if we got pregnant...so....we probably will stay useing both methods for a fair amount of time at least, although its quite irritateing to have to stop everything to put on a condom. now the question i have is...at somepoint we are probably going to opt to change to a slightly more convienient method of bc, that would still prevent pregnany without haveing to use a condom; what is a highly effective method with little side effects that could possibly be a good future method for us....i have heard that an IUD is good...and iv done research on various methods....i just would like to know what has worked for you....how well it worked for you....and how convienient it was for you....thank you very much for your time

IUD's are generally not recommended for women who have not yet had children but plan to in the future. The most convenient one to use is still the pill.

So, you want to go off the pill? Because there's no really good reason in your case to switch from the pill to a IUD.The pill has less of a failure rate than IUD in perfect use, and most literature list typical use as lower as well. Plus, IUD can shift, resulting in pregnancy. There are also more risks involved with IUDs and less positive side effects. (the pill has many positive side effects.)People typically use a IUD instead of the pill, not with. You need another method that blocks sperm, something to replace your condom use.

OHHH....thanks....i wouldent want to do anything that would threaten my future fertilitly...id love to be a mom someday....so the pill would still be effective enough to prevent pregnancy even if he ejaculated inside of me?
-
i wasnt planning on useing both....the pill itsself would be fine with me if i was sure that it would effective enough to keep us from getting pregnant....and this is further down the road for sure maby even like a year or so...but without the use of a sperm blocking method...is the pill alone effective enough?

Even though the pill has a failure rate, My wife has been using the pill for over 10 yrs and we've never had an accident. She did quit using the pill about 6 moths ago though. She's had enough artificial hormones.

Depends on what kind of pill you're taking. If you're taking estogen & progesterone pills, they prevent ovulation. Progesterone only pills don't prevent ovulation, everything is just less receptive to fertilization. Estogen & progesterone pills have a better successrate than progesterone only, but only slighty. Every time you have sex you're at risk for pregnancy, it's just about increasing your odds. You said you don't want to do anything that takes away the spontaneity of sex, that's not really possible, unless you want to be sterilized. The pill is very reliable, but I would also suggest you get to know your body. Figure out when you're going to ovulate and avoid having sex on those days. Use the pill, and why have him ejaculate in you when he doesn't need to.

im on the combination pill lutera, were deffinitly sticking to the condom pill combo right now....but i was mainly asking for a wile down the road...like we may get married in a few years...but im planing on going to medical school so a baby wouldent work even if we were married....i was just asking what was the most effective form of birthcontrol that would not require the pull out method or a condom . i know that there is always a risk of pregnancy when haveing sex...but there are deffinitly things that can lessin the likelyhood. i really appreseate everyones input
