>>>Oh how I wish I was a teen at the birth of Grunge, it would have been so cool to hear Nirvana for the first time as a teenager!
Agreed! I wish I'd been old enough to apreciate Nirvana while they were still together.

yay me I was around!! a child of the 80's I even remember those RiP Kurt Cobain t-shirts that were around for aaaaages heh hehAh well, there are always new great innovative bands, we just have to wait for them... I mean, take The Darkness for example... their first album WILL go down as one of the greats, fair enough, their second has pretty much flopped, but, I wouldn't count them out, they're still a worldwide phenomina... all that, and, they did it wearing spandex!!! lolEverything seems better when you can just look back on it in your minds eye, because, you don't remember as much of the monotany, which is ever present!!Anyway, as we've moved over to Nirvana and such for talking, anybody been liking: "My Chemical Romance" I just got their album, and, it's a great in it's own right too anyway, to part today, a phrase only my generation could manage (I'm a child of the 80's ... circa 1980 if you must know lol)..."Be excellent to each other" and "Party on Dudes!" Dan
i fucking love nirvana. i miss kurt like crazy. him and marilyn monroe are my absolute heros. -tear- i just wish they were alive to realize it
I do notice, though, that young people now are much less confident, more uncertain, more dependent, less socially adept and I think more unhappy than young people were a generation ago. If you hang around this site, you might get that idea. You might have thought the opposite if it existed then as rather now. It's like becoming a fireman and thinking that, now, everything's always on fire. What you say may be true because more is expected by our cultures from young people in terms of sexual experience. On the other hand, going out in groups is more common than it used to be in the "old days", where one-on-one dating was more the norm.Nowadays, though, much more information is available that teens don't have to pay attention to, so they tend to hear about more stuff that they know little about.
Naw, it's all about the parenting. We are supposed to be parents, yet alot of parents want to be friends. Even parents of my generation were doing the kissy friendy thing with their kids. Question is, where DOES confidence come from? Do you really know that the stove is hot, till you touch it a few times? Or do you know how to jump a hurdle, if mommy picks you up and sets you over it? Definatly confusing when you have some of those old fashioned values, and the kid next door, (who gets D's and F's) just got given a brand new car. Especially when the parents are sharing a clunker that is 20yrs old...Sorry, tangent..lol I just have a hard time remembering how good I DO have it, when I look at all the peops who got the hand outs...Probably a part of confidence issues with the younger generations too...
I saw Nirvana in concert.
And you didn't take me Lets just go hop in the time machine and try that one ALL over again...lol
Haha, I still have my T-shirt that I got from the show.
How old are you? 40?
I am 26...how old are you? 10?
Just so close! When did you see Nirvana then? And where. Did you get anything signed....like breasts...
I saw them Halloween night in Akron hugs Eddie. I was 13 or 14, so no breast signing. Kurt was dressed like Barney, Chris was dressed like Slash from Guns 'N' Roses, and I don't think Dave was dressed like anything. A few months later he killed himself. So I was pretty lucky to see them.
ok, sorry but I wasn't a Nirvana fan.. there, I said it out loud. And I was a Courney Love fan BEFORE Nirvana hit it big.I actually liked Teen Spirit when it came out but it was eventually beaten out of my by years uppon years of radio play. However, Lisa, I will carefully remove your t-shirt and fold it as a sign of respect. And the Darkness? Innovative? They'r a parody band and very good at it. Brings Spinal Tapp to mind. But I can't see a band that is reviving an old style for fun as innovative.
Courtney was a dirty stripper before Nirvana hit it big.
and I can't be a fan of that?
I was listening to Hole before I ever heard of Nirvana
I know that feeling. I saw Randy Rhodes play guitar for Ozzy Osbourne about two months before Rhodes was killed in a plane-crash. It was New Years eve...I remember (barely) coming out into the parking lot after the show and realizing that I couldn't put my foot anywhere without stepping on broken glass. It was unique.
Fortunately because of the TV show, nobodies gonna make me feel old by asking who Ozzy is.
Ahhh -- I only saw the tribute bands! They weren't that bad...but you know 'It was no Nirvana.'Did you get to see other bands? As I Lay Dying? SCARY KIDS SCARING KIDS? Shiny Toy Guns? They're having a tour for Nirvana - check it out. It's dope.Next concert I'm going to is: SKATE 4 CANCER in London, at the Salt Lounge, then Moneen. So dope!
No, I'm not basing it on here, Steve, I'm basing it on my real-life experience, where I have been seeing sizable numbers of young people tackle a similar new situation each year for decades. My impression from that is that confidence and self-reliance levels peaked in the early 1980s (they had been steadily getting better), and have been declining since. What is also very noticeable now here is that teens get out of home by themselves much less than they used to. They are much more indoors people. I haven't noticed anything particular about dating patterns.
You are my new idol....
lucky lucky lucky....
With few exceptions, Ill side with you on this little debate.
While there will always be those that break out and fight back and take life on, overall, I think it is ,much less common with each generation. I base it on what Iv seen around the land, and on watching ,my own kids.
