I was totally misinformed throughout high school. (19 now)Had sex for first time awhile back and foreskin PAINFULLY peeled back. My HEAD WAS SOOOOOO SENSITIVE at the time. It hurt, and for some reason, I thought the foreskin was suppose to REMAIN peeled so prove the guy has lost his virginity. (I have no idea where this came from, maybe from looking at pornography) I also never peeled my foreskin before at the time, it hurt so much.Did anyone use to think of this? I come from a conservative family so asking about the penis was unacceptable as a child. I'm an uncut Asian. I could've peeled the foreskin back after, but I thought it was suppose to remain like that. Stupid? Misinformed. Its funny how in highschool they teach you about STDS, basic pregnancy, but not the basics of the penis (CAPP). I was NEVER taught about foreskin peeling back during sex and when you look at porn, its all cut men usually or they are already peeled back. I thought this was the standard for a healthy penis.I got paraphimosis as a result and I had no idea. Went to a general practictioner and he guy actually said I just had IRRITATION. I went to the hopistal ER hours later after finally finding out that the foreskin is suppose to return to its original position after posting a question on answerology. Waited for a hour and doctor popped it back in position.I had paraphimosis for 48 hours because i was misinformed. My penis is functioning fine I strongly believe. There should be no long term damage right?

I wouldn't think so; but this always pisses me off; why do parents never tell thier kids how to take care of themselves?Would you let your child run around in diapers for the rest of thier lives, or not bathe them? Damnit...would the parents out there PLEASE tell all thier children (Male and female) how to clean themselves properly?

Paraphimosis can be a problem if it cuts off circulation to the head, but it sounds like you are fine.
It's disgraceful the school sex education classes don't talk about foreskin issues.

Yes, though if the father is circumcised and the son isn't, the parents simply may not have the knowledge required and need to learn it themselves. While ideally they would, all too often parents give no sex education at all, and the school education is crucial.

I wholly agree, IneligibleI often forget how much education I was given by my parents (they were always open for discussion) or at school (I had 6 years with sexual education; starting at grade 4, and random thereafter) so it tends to disturb me when I hear things like this. The parents should be the ultimate teachers...but where the hell is the public education sector in this? Anyways, that's all I have to say, I don't want to derail this thread.

Believe me I was flustered too at my school system as well, I was a active student in high school so I wasn't all emo in the corner and neglecting school life. There just wasn't enough information available. But in the end, its just the culture issue again. Most asian families unlike caucasian, we aren't as open with our sexuality, especially asian men, unless they have been Americanized/Canadianized. I can't speak for the asian womens, but its just something that isn't appropriate to talk about.

You have my support, and hopes that your injury is not permenent. I trust when you have your own son you will inform him of sexuality and his body so he dosn't have to learn the hard way.
In either case, a belated welcome to A2A

Is there any way to get rid of paraphimosis yourself without seeing a doctor?

See the stretching thread in Male Anatomy.

I had paraphimosis 2 times and I know how scary and painful it can be. luckily if you penis is okay now you didnt do any permanent damage so that's good. if it happens again this is what the doctor told me to do. take the thumb and 2 fingers and squeeze you cock head down as small as you can while you use the other hand to pull the skin foreward.I had a phimotic ring which is like a tight ring of scar tissue in the skin of the foreskin which is more serious than regular phimosis and I ended up gettin circumcised. Its also possible to make a slit in the foreskin to make the opening bigger.tho it may seem that at least half of uncut guys have foreskin problems on afraidtoask, my doctor said its more like 5% or a little more. plus paraphimosis is rarer than that which may be part of why they don't tell boys to look our for it.
