I thought we talked about the knuckleheads! Knuckle em back! Sheesh. Also, I think orb was talking about Chance making a different chat room...did I get that right?

We broke it!
-
Yeah I know, but this was more convenient. I wish I could just turn it(display) off until the "quickreply" button is clicked.
-
Another one of those darn all or nothing things huh?I do like having it there, it is easier to quote and reply to more than one person. I get lost waiting on stupid pages to load...Yeah yeah, I know, dump the flippin dial up...
-
Ya know I have sattelite that puts cable to shame, nearly 3 times faster, and I only pay 30 a month, 20 less than cable wants ! and only ten more than dial up was when I last had it uhhh prolly 6 to 8 years ago.
-
Well, it isn't the monthly cost, its the set up cost I am trying to save for. Plus, the providers around here are not doing installs for a while, and changing all the equipment around. Until they get their stuff straight, I get free dial up...so, eh we will see. Who is the carrier? I am game for comparing.
-
Doesn't satellite only give you a downlink? Do you have to use a dial-up line to send stuff? And isn't there a pretty long latency between the time you click on something and your screen changes (because it takes so long for the signal to go up to the satellite, through it, and down to the ground again)?
-
Nope, it is fast, and you can upload and down load with pretty good speed. The ones I have used, have slower upload than download, but not much. Also, DSL seems ALOT slower here than satellite.
-
Not at allI use the same little antenna on my roof for uploads and downloads and I have zero lag.Its advertised as sattelite maybe it isnt really ? This is what I have.I signed up long enough ago that when they changed the prices I got to keep my old prices for the same speed.I only pay for the 5 program, but I have burst speed of up to 10, and the only time I go below that is when there is alot of traffic on the system, and then Im reduced to the 5.
-
my carrier is local. But I got free set up because I switched from another provider, and my first month was free with no contracts. Each time somone signs up and uses me for a reference, I get another month free, and they get set up for free.
I think Iv only paid for one month so far  Im betting there is something close to the same in your area, it seems like a pretty common system to just be in the shitty small town I live in in Utah of all places -
Yeah that's wireless but uses a dish to point in the general direction of the access point.
-
Ok, I checked that out. We have ClearWire here, that does the same thing. The trouble is, we are in a valley that doesn't receive signal from the router. It mentions Starband, which is a LOUSY satellite provider...still looking. They won't put a hub in town for DSL, and we're too far out for cable, I only have the two options...Satellite, and dial up. I need to get back closer to Redding...Or maybe I will grab my mom in law, and head to MT Green Utah again..lol
-
whatever :P I never really looked into what it was till jsut now when I started browsing the FAQ of that site.Im only about 300 yards from the closest repeater with clear line of site. all I know is I love it
-
That seems like a nice service.
I knew someone who lived a bit too far off the beaten path, like Pepsi, to get DSL or cable internet service. So he got a sattelite service, with a sattelite disk pointed toward the sky. He had the problems I mentioned, but it was better than dial-up. It was very expensive.
-
Expense is an issue, it is about 3x the cost. HOWEVER, if I do it about right, I can go ANYWHERE and still have service...I DO live in an rv...never know, I might actually use it for it's intended purpose some day. But that means going with DirectWay..(DirectTV)I find them to be repulsive, uneducated jerks.
