We had wondered where you had been off too and why you hadnt been posting. Thought mayhaps your sister ate you or something, or maybe gave you a gigantic piercing then you got it infected and died.Hows the ibanez doing ?for the rest, look to http://www.xe.com/ucc/

1 Euros = 1.52704995 Canadian dollars...and LOL chance..!
-
I wonder how many Euros the Ibanez is worth. It is, after all, the best stringed instrument ever made. Eat your heart out, Stradivarius.
-
Well...I founda good price on an Ibanex HERE then I visited the site I listed inmy first post and put that money into it after converting it to CAD (249 USD = 293.54 CAD) then converted that to the Euro, and now I know that that particular Ibanex (that is 112 dollars off MSRP) is worth 191.59 EUROs

Wow Chance, that's a great price on a quality guitar! Tell me how the people at home can get one....or two! All I can say is that every other guitar sucks badly, and how well you play doesn't much matter. It's all in the guitar. [And then I woke up from my Home Shopping Network nightmare...]

Now Steve, that was at musicians friend, who carry a wide selection of guitars, at various prices and has nothing to do with HSN.Ther is one localy here in Utah where the last guitar I bought came from.Culdnt tell ya the brand but its a nice little non electric that with the gig bag and extra set of strings I paid about 150 for 2 years ago.I regret not going electric now, electric you can plug ear phones into and then when my son is playing it I dont have to hear it all the damned time. I relaize I was also bad because its nto an ibanez but Im too lazy to walk into his room and see what it is.

I bought some stuff from Musician's Friend a while back, and I found them to be a highly reputable outfit, with good prices. If you're going to talk about a guitar that's not an Ibanez, I'm going to put my hands over may ears and run around the room screaming. There's no reason you can't get the boy an electric guitar and a small amp (with a headphone jack, of course). If you learn on an electric, it's hard to play an acoustic, but the reverse is easy.

Thats why I went with that purchase instead of the electric, that and because it was cheaper and I wanted to make sure he was going to stick with it rather than me put out several hundred dollars for a good guitar and it sit gathering dust after a week. Its only now that he does play it that I regret not getting the electric so he could use head phones.

I bought my son one of those Estaban Acoustic guitars for $200 bucks from the HSN over a 1-2 yrs ago. Same thing. I wasn't going to dish out good money on something he might not stick with. Anyways, the guitar is OK for the money and he got pretty good with it on his own. Last fall he asked for an electric and I caved in. He picked out a nice Fender Stratocaster and he's progressing nicely. Luckily he's into meloodies and rhythms as opposed to some screaming heavy metal type playing.. so it's a pleasure to listen to him as opposed to an annoyance.

From an Esteban to a Strat...If he's never taken a lesson, it's something I'd recommend, no matter what level he's at.

LOL Im into the heavy metal more so than my son. Its that constant playing that drives me batshit. an hour here and an hour there wouldnt be so bad, but its CONSTANT and its always at night when I want to destress. I looked into that estaban one, all teh reviews I read said it was shit, bad parts, loose neck, shitty assembly all the way around.so I bought another one in the local shop that my womans brother whos a pretty damned good guitarist said was a good beginner.Sounds good, easy to take camping and what not if we are not backpacking in.all I know is if I hear tom dooley one more time Ill shit in the guitar and smash it over his stereo. It was teh first one he learned to play and its one he still plays ALOT
-
He's pretty good and makes up his own melodies. No doubt, lessons are a must.. but as always...time a money are always an issue.
-
He's pretty good and makes up his own melodies. That's great. Jamming with other people is also a great learning experience, and is more fun than taking lessons.

Yeah, I don't know that much about guitars. Maybe we were lucky and the earlier models were better. It's all mass produced in China anyways. But this one has had absolutely no issues and sounds OK. The only complaint he had was that the strings were too high above the frets so we too it into a shop and the lowered the strings by shaving down the bridges?
-
Yeah his best friend took up the guitar about the same time. They get together and play. We have a friend who played when he was younger (in a band) and went to music school. My son visited him and he offered to help him out if he was interested. He's not a music teacher but he plays really well so I don't know how that would work. We should look into it.

I need to get my son into lesons, in themean time my womans brother gives him some help and he has a guitar class at school every other friday he does.Living in a small town and him being 14, I cant get him lessons here and with my schedules and my gfs schedule, its impossible to drive his ass into town or the city on a regular basis to take lessons. If only he was 16 instead of 14 it would make it much easier to get him into the lessons he needs.i play some, but wouldnt cal myself a guitarist and I help with what I can but Im far from a teacher.

Dayum, SDP. Wanna be, like, my dad? My parents don't support me. Has your son learned the good stuff yet? Hammer ons, pull offs, arpeggio's , Bending, double picking.?Make sure to get him to read music - otherwise, it's pointless to learn music. Strat pick-ups suck.-----Thanks, Amz; that's very precise

Ha ha, we had this discussion before, when you were known as PurpleStain.
Reading music is good and commendable, and to be highly recommended, but not reading music does not make learning music pointless.
So, still highly opinionated about musical gear? It's much more important to focus on technique, and understanding pitch and rhythm, then it is to become obsessed with gear.

By the way you dropped many clues (your temperament not being the least of them), but you tirade about being Latin was a dead giveaway.Welcome back, banned fraudster.
