No more smoking?
-
Great Law! Even when I was a smoker I couldn't stand the smell of it while I was eating, nor could I stand myself for smoking. Those fuckers should be illegal, legalize POT for heaven's sake.
Legalize it, and I man will advertise it.
-
That is a compramise I could live with.make pot legal and ban smokes entirely.Im Ok with that.Im Ok with it not being allowed in food places, and even on planes. it goes against everything to ban it in a place where people are getting sloppy ass drunk to begin with.
-
see i understand the bit about the business DEEMED for smoking, they made it so you had to know exactly what was going on and pay to get in and they still got shat on? thats horsecrap its one thing if its a fully public no membership place but why shouldnt they be allowed to make a bar devoted to smokers that requires membership? the ONLY argument that could be considered is if police or EMT's needed to get in. other then that theres no justification in shutting down an establishment that requires you to know beforehand theres smoke in there and PAY to get in
-
and I agree, but in Utah thats exatly what happened, they jsut kept fining them fo rallowing smoking in the place even though everyone was a member and knew it was a smokers place. Thats why I have the problem with this whole mess.you want purely public bars to be smoke free? fuck it I can deal with that, but then someone opens a place thats FOR smokers and they get fined till they cant afford to pay it and shut down becuas they allow smoking by people who paid a membership in order to go there and smoke? thats bullshit. the law says no smoking with in 25' of the door or inside the building. thats it period, no matter if its a private club or not, the owner can no longer decide, and that is why its bullshit, who the fuck is the state to tell me what I can and cant do? its discrimination against a very large group of people but because we smoke, its ok we dont count.
-
yeah see thats horseshit, i hate smoking myself, nowadays it makes me downright nauseous to smell it but i simply WOULDNT GO IN THERE! as for the door thing, why not just have a little room for coats and shoes and such from the front door with a seperate ventilation system? at that point its the non smokers own damn fault for paying to get in and the whole "its my choice not to smoke" goes out in a puff a shitty smoke! because really if you paid to get in to a place where you KNEW catered to smokers and then bitched about the smoke, youre just an asshole who needs a lit cigarette in your ass
-
If you pay to go inside someplace to smoke, then you are stupid. All you have to do is go right outside the door and smoke. And most bars have made a deck/patio with chairs and tables so smokers can sit and drink and smoke. You guys are making this too complicated.
-
its not really about the decision to smoke, its that, that business got royally hosed because they chose to make a business that catered specifically to smokers, they werent runnin around takin a hit and blowing it in peoples faces, they were just sitting in their building slowly killing themselves not hurting anyone BUT themselves and they got screwed for it
-
Its really not too complicated lish.I didnt pay to go smoke, I payed to be a member of that club and be able to go to a place with no kids and smoke and have a drink with my food.my membership dues? 1 dollar a year. as to patios and shit, what about winter? why should I have to freeze my nuts off to smoke? night here has been single digits or below zero for the last month, who the fuck should have to go out in that and the snow or rain to smoke?its about choice. in Utah your paying a membership if yuo wnat anything besides a beer or your nto going to have it in a public place. so why cant a club decide for itself it its smoke free or not?what really is the big deal? Why does the stae have the right to tell them they cant smoke in thier own fucking property? or allow smoking in it?Its nto the fucking states business, its the owners.
-
I can see it from both sides, but I'm still finding myself rooting for the smoker. I used to be a smoker and I'll be completely honest with you, I loved every minute of it!! There's nothing better than kicking back after a long days work in your easy chair and lighting up a smoke to relax.... total nirvana! Yes, I made the choice to be a smoker just like I made the choice to give up the habit (mainly because I couldn't afford it anymore), but where do other people get off saying that someone who smokes isn't allowed to go to certain places? I always hear people going on and on about how it’s within their constitutional rights to be able to go somewhere without having to breath smoke, but what about a the person's rights you're telling 'no, you can't do that' to? That's never made sense to me!I live about 45 minutes away from a city that's trying to pass a smoke free ordinance, and if it passes they want to make an amendment to it stating that the only place a person is allowed to smoke within the city is in their own home and vehicle. Well slap me silly, I didn't think what I did in my own house was the business of anyone else, nor did I think it was anyone else's right to tell me whether or not I can smoke in or on my property! I have no problem with smoking being banned in hospitals, restaurants, movie theaters, and bars if people must have it done, but why in parks and zoos and what not? You're out in the open, and it's not like a wild pack of smokers are going to hunt some unsuspecting person down just so they can back them against a wall and blow smoke in their face just for shits and giggles. I mean come on, it's not like people who smoke are part of some super secret legion of nicotine freaks wanting to push their habit on everyone, everywhere, at all times. They're just regular people looking to find a place to relax and have a smoke without being made to feel like they have to hide outside behind a dumpster to take a puff or two just so they won't have people sneering and acting like they've just committed some outlandish crime. I think that a person who owns a restaurant or a bar should have the right to choose whether or not they want people to smoke in their establishment. It's their business and if they want to pay the extra money to install heavy duty ventilators, then by all means, get on with your bad self; it shouldn't be for the state to decide.Hmm, I think I'll just stop right here because this subject really gets me heated and I don't feel up to arguing right now, I've got a head cold.

I love it in canada.Do you know how nice it is for the NON smokers??
-
personaily i don't care. lol if a place smells like smoke i just leave. there are alot of place that i don't have to smell smoke. it's not just the smell but it phisically gets to me. my eyes water and it makes me cough. i really don't know why. i'm that way with any kind of smoke wither it's ciggrette, cigar or fire smoke. some place here are smoke free and some arn't. (i'm talkign about eating places...not bars cuz well yea i can't go to bars yet lol... but anyway some of restrounts that let people smoke are in a completly diffrent section so i don't have to smell the smoke. but cracklebarrel's smoking area is next to the nonsmoking area. makes no since to me! i mean i have sat at a nonsmokign table where a smoking table was right next to me. and that's why i hardly go eat their. i don't tell no one to not smoke around me or make a big fuss.... i just remove myself from it. I knwo if i go someplace with my brother he's going to smoke in his truck. He knows if he gets in my truck their want be no smoking in it. so we usally go in his lol... but he rolls his window down and i put my shirt over my nose. so it works. lol

Why? Because some smokers just throw thier nasty cigarette butts on the ground.
Everything you guys are saying, is everything people in Ohio were saying when we were faced with this issue. I remember business owners were so nervous. And I thought the same things. Now, no one even talks about it. Smokers still smoke and non-smokers can enjoy a meal with out smelling smoke. Everyone's happy.

I 100% agree Lish. To me it’s like people would rather be selfish than look at the dangers they are pushing on other people. Basically it’s a “Fuck you and your health, it’s my ‘right’ to smoke so deal with it”. I still find it insane people think we need to cater to smokers. Those who smoke made the choice, and now we are supposed to cater to that choice? THAT to me is crap! If people are too lazy to walk outside for the 2-3 minutes to smoke a cig than maybe they shouldn't be smoking? The killer is the law is not stopping people from smoking, it’s just giving them designated areas to smoke so they are not pushing their smoke on other people who shouldn’t have to deal with someone else CHOICE.I’m tired of the whining, “It’s my right” to be honest. Well where is my right to go out to the bars and not get second hand smoke? When does my rights come into play? Should a society cater to people who make a choice such as smoking or to the people who do not smoke? Most of the people in our society do not smoke, so why force them to breath in your toxins? Makes absolutely no sense. Point blank, my health should not be in danger because other people choose to smoke. It's called having consideration for other people and their health; if you want to smoke, that’s fine but don’t push the cancer on me.
-
I don't go do public things as much because of the law. I still drink, smoke and squat to pee if I need..lolI just do stuff at home, or find other places, like the lake, to go. Part of the way they did it here just irks me. I think, that if a place wants to allow smoking it should be up to the owner too. Hell, now in Cali, you can't even smoke in your car if you have minors in it!!! (Not that THAT is a bad thing) but you can go home, smoke in the house till the cows come home, and kill your kids there, at least in a car, most people open a window....
-
Quote:I don't go do public things as much because of the law That's funny because before the law, as a non-smoker, I still went to bars and still ate at restaurants even though there was smoke all around me. I don't get why smokers are having a hard time with this. Quote:but you can go home, smoke in the house till the cows come home, and kill your kids there So, are you saying it would be better to ban smoking in your own home too because parents cannot be responsible enough to not smoke in front of thier children?

Eddie how is your health in dandger?
Im not asking for the right to smoke on planes or trains or in grocery stores, Im simply asking that a club can be smoking or non smoking as the owner sees fit.
You can avoid the smoke filled clubs. Where the fuck does that put you in any danger? Who the fuck is asking you to cater to anyone?Lish your a non smoker, you do not have a chemical dependance on it, to go to where smoke is is possible because its ntohing mroethan stinky to you, to go where yuo cant smoke as a smoker, is an exercise in stress. and denial of a needed fix.
Is it really that big ofa fucking deal to say Ok if you advertise and pts warnings that your s smoking building and your purpose is recreation and not needed public services its Ok for your parons to smoke. If you serve needed public resources, then its a non smoking building no matter what, clubs cna choose to be smoke free or smoke filled.
On top of all this, smokers built the fucking clubs, they established the bars, they patronized them and made them a sucess so if indeed a non smoking club can not turn a profit and stay in business then who fucking cares? its the non smokers problem. I pay enough already for my habits with out being ostrasized like a fucking second class citizen because of the fact I smoke.
Its free enterprize, you make shit the way you wnat it and if he crowds come your a sucess, if they dont your a failure, its tthat way no matter what the product is that you sell. and dont talk to me about fucking health when your talking about sitting in a bar swilling drinks all night, the two do NOT go together.
If your not in a drinking and smoking place then you do realize there are plenty of dance halls that allow niether and cater to those 18 an up, go to those. -
For me, I was never much of a crowd person anyway. I guess it just adds to my list of reasons to stay out of the crowds. Plus, if I am out, and want to smoke in the winter, I have to go freeze my ass off. At home, I have heat outside so it isn't so horrible. An yep, it's full on addiction. I have tried, and tried to stop..so far, no luck.I don't smoke in my house, but I can see the laws becoming more stringent to the point that it is illegal to do so. As far as the kids go, I ensured that there were court orders NOT to smoke around them. ESPECIALLY my little guy who has enough breathing issues. They make these great little strips to test for it too. Though, I haven't been inclined to use them.

Quote: Eddie how is your health in dandger?Second-hand smoke, enough said. Quote: Im not asking for the right to smoke on planes or trains or in grocery stores, Im simply asking that a club can be smoking or non smoking as the owner sees fit.As I have said times before this will never happen. No smart business owner is going to limit who their patrons are. Quote:You can avoid the smoke filled clubs. Where the fuck does that put you in any danger? Who the fuck is asking you to cater to anyone? So because smokers chose to smoke, I have to limit where I'm allowed to go if I want to avoid their second hand smoke? Hmm sounds pretty fucked up if you ask me. I have to suffer because of someone else choice... hmm... I don't think so. You made the choice, and to be frank you take on the consequences. "Who the fuck is asking you to cater to anyone?" People like you are. You're basically said you made the choice to smoke now deal with it, or give me special bars because I smoke; to me that’s catering. Quote:and denial of a needed fix. You seem to be missing the point; no one is denying you your nicotine fix. They are simply asking you to take your CHOICE to smoke to a designated area where other people don't have to suffer for your choice. Again if smokers cannot take 2-3 minutes here and there to step outside (Or the outside patio, or smoking room) to have their smoke, than maybe they shouldn't be smoking. My best friend smokes, and she voted for the smoking ban. She never bitches or complains like I have heard people here complain about having to go outside every now and than to have her smoke. It's not a big deal! Hell she likes it because it lets her get some fresh air and away from the noisy bar for a few minutes. Matter of fact I have never once, while out at the bar, heard one person bitch. Because seriously, it’s not a big deal! They are there to be around the friends and have a good time, not to smoke. Quote: and dont talk to me about fucking health when your talking about sitting in a bar swilling drinks all night, the two do NOT go togetherActually I can talk about health. I drink one day a week, usually Saturday nights. I have only three drinks the whole night; I don't have to get plastered to have a good time. So I certainly can talk about health.I think people are missing the point it’s not just about an individual person; it’s also about the employees that work at these establishments. Everyone has the right to have a safe working environment, and personally having a smoke filled environment is not a safe environment.
