I'm just wondering who else here uses facebook. I just discovered it recently and I love it, although it's bloody addicting. Good for contacting people I haven't seen in awhile though.

Facebook

I'm on Facebook. I'm forced to use it because all my friends have abandoned the traditional methods of contacting each other.
-
I just joined the other day to keep in contact with some Scottish people, since they don't use Bebo which is what most Irish people use. And I've never really been a fan of MySpace...
-
I'll stick with MySpace. It looks like you have so many more things you can do to your webpage...
-
That is why I like Myspace Better. Also, with myspace, you can have complete control as to who can see your page (friends only). Facebook seems more vouyeristic (sp).
-
Same with facebook. You can make it so only friends can see your page (although I prefer to keep mine open). I won't get into the whole disintegration of traditional methods of communication in favour of non-verbal methods. I use things like that primarily to contact people so that I can see them face to face again or keep in touch if they've moved away. I don't see how facebook seems voyeuristic. In what way does the content seem primarily sexually motivated?
-
I just hate the news feed. Even though you can limit what people see about you in the news feed, when you change your profile picture or join a group, it'll still show up in the news feed. And I have my privacy settings tight! I just don't like that at all.
-
Ive only know 1 person who uses facebook, i have a bebo account but all there is is a link to my myspace acccount
-
I love facebook. I like it more than myspace, since alot of people tend to go a bit crazy with their page and put a bunch of flash stuff all over it. My whole system starts hanging once it goes past 3 or 4 flash movies/games/something on the screen at once.
-
I just started my facebook up and I agree with that.Myspace does my head in cos it's like "my first webpage" and most people dress it up, put stupid animations and dolls up, link in music and do all those sodding "what kind of a ____ are you?" quizzes which take up so much space and make things messy. And all you get is "THX FOR DA ADD." messages.Facebook is more organised, more clean cut, easier to find the people you want to find and more "purposeful".

There are some people who are just not close enough to call regularly, and not everyone wants to go through the effort of maintaining a formal blog (do you?), and expanding their diary every day or week. And it's not necessarily easy for people who might think about you when they thing about their 12th grade classmates to track down your blog.
If you're under 30 or so, Myspace, Facebook, etc. are good ways to track down people you haven't seen in a while, people who are likely not living near you, but do not plan to have a buddy-buddy relationship with.
On the other hand, if you're spending an inordinate amount of time on those sites, communicating with the same people all the time, then there are better ways to keep in touch.
I think there is an exhibitionist element to people laying out the details of their life on blogs or social networking sites for all the world to read (and see, when photos are added).
-
With my Facebook and Myspace, I don't write about my life using those blogs (Myspace) and notes (Facebook.) I use that for my Livejournal, which is friends only. I guess I just have a profile just to have one.
I know people who spend all day on these sites, and it's kind of worrisome. I have friends who will refer to their friends' facebook profile and talk about their quotes, interests, and photos. Weird.

One thing I want to add:
I hate when people use Facebook exclusively to contact someone. When I was in school, instead of calling a person and telling them something, a lot of people would send me messages/write on my wall to tell me something. It became annoying because I was forced to use it just to keep up with what was going on.
I just wish people would IM or call my cell phone more than sending me a message on Facebook. Not everyone sit on Facebook all day.
Okay--vent over.

Google "Facebook." IMing people is better, IMO.
