Yeah I'm kind of in a sticky situation. I'm supposed to right a paper on the Democratics for some assignment in history and the other person is to right on the Republicans. Everyone kept telling me to right on Democratics so I can bash them but I don't really want to. People I know and friends say they are for Republicans beacuase they are .... Christian or are anti-abortion and stuff like that and then I have my family, church friends, pastor, and co-workers who are for Democratics because they are more for the people, those who aren't rich and basically just... middle class. I just want to know what's the main difference between the two. I know the differences and such but is the main difference between them that one is for the people and the other is for the rich or something? I know I'm going to mention my pro-democraticness lol and in the process possibly lose some friends I don't care but I'm just not sure.

Democratics and Republicans

Well...Democrats tend to support abortion rights; Republicans tend to oppose it.Democrats tend to support more government control over the economy; Republicans tend to favor less control.Democrats tend to support higher taxes; Republicans tend to support less taxes. As for moral issues, Republicans tend to want to legislate morality, while Democrats don't support legislating morality. As for religion, Republicans tend to support religion and government being intertwined and are more likely to express their faith publicly; Democrats tend to be more private about their faith and generally don't support the mixing of government and religion. As for civil rights, it used to be that the Republicans were more likely to publicly support it, but (since the '68 shift that saw the Democratic South disappear due to the exodus of white Democrats to the Republican Party) that has changed. While they aren't opposed to civil rights per se, they don't like the idea of the government getting involved in "states rights (code name for Jim Crow laws)." Since Lyndon Johnson, Democrats have been more vocal in their support of civil rights. As for government spending, it used to be that Democrats were labeled as the big spenders. However, the government's budget (and government spending) has increased while Bush and the Republicans controlled Congress. There are plenty of issues that you can differentiate between Dems and Reps. These are just the basics. I should note that these are generalizations and not all Democrats and Republicans fit into these descriptions. There are conservative Democrats (called the Yellow Dog Democrats in the House of Representatives) that are fiscally conservative and sometimes against abortion). There are liberal Republicans (the two female senators from Maine) who hold support abortion rights.

That explains a lot about what's going on in this country.Ask someone from a third party (like the Green Party), and they'll tell you that there's no real difference between Democrats and Republicans. There are differences, but it's some times pretty hard to pin down what they are, because they've changed through history, and they continue to change. You could write a book on which party is more "conservative".One big difference between the parties is how they feel about getting involved in other nations' internal affairs. Now, the Republicans are more interested in foreign wars and nation building. As far as abortion is concerned, the folks who think the Republicans will ever do anything about it are sheep, being led by the nose. The Republicans have been in full control for six years, and abortion is still legal. People like Bush talk the talk, but they will never spend any political capital on the effort. But people like to hear the talk, while their best interests are being trashed in so many ways by the politicians they support. It does say a lot about politics in this country.

I would advise you to not come here for objective information on either party. You're not likely to get it.
I would suggest you go to their respective websites to get the information you need.
