hey. im new here and this is my first post.my best friend who's 13 and her parents fight a lot. her dad's nicer to her, compared to her mom, but he's an alcoholic-rarely home. her mom always goes out with friends and comes home late and they are probably going to get a divorce.my friend's always very happy and hyper at school. but when she gets home, on the phone and msn, she gets really depressed. she thinks that the relationship problem between her parents is her fault, one time she said that it's a reason for her to die. she also says that she don't know who she should live with after the divorce. she has an older brother who lives in another country but she doesn't want to move.i'm scared that she would suicide or something. what can i do to help her? (she doesn't want people to know about her family issues and doesn't really like to talk about it)

Welcome to A2A, just2bme93.This is very tough for your friend. It doesn't sound like ordinary depression, because she's happy at school. It sounds more like stress and anxiety, because she can't see a solution. It's very common for children of divorcing parents to feel it's their fault somehow. What she needs is to accept the situation, and this will be a very slow process. If you can provide a good listening ear, so she can talk it through with you again and again as she gradually feels able to and as she needs to, you will help her a lot.
