Constructive debate is a good thing. No worries.

Confederate history month

I was actually afraid to look to see if I had piss anyone off or vice versa.
-
well, with anything other than an accident, and depending on what it was, say breaking up with someone, im still sorry that theyre hurt even if i knew that they would be, so to me its not really about being sorry about what i did, just still sorry that that person is hurt or soemthing of the like
-
Yes, it's possible to say you are sorry without being the person at fault. Indeed in some parts of Africa, I understand, it is normal politeness if (for example) you drop something on the street, for everyone passing to say "sorry" - it indicates sympathy for your suffering.

We have a rule in our program against any depiction of the rebel flag. We've even had to take a t-shirt off a kid while he was in the clinic. The other day I had a 15 year old boy tell me his foster father took away his brand new belt he just bought an hour earlier cause it had the rebel flag on it. He couldn't return it cause he had his name engraved on it.The crazy thing is that I have to explain to these guys why we have the rule against the rebel flag and how/why it is a symbol of institutionalized racism for a lot of people. It's crazy. But I have a theory. I think people who wear or condone the rebel flag can be divvied up into three groups.50% of them know how and why it's offensive and don't give a sh*t cause they're redneck a-holes.45% act like they didn't know it was offensive and why, but they really do and are just hiding behind a feigned ignorance. This is pretty much where my boys fall.5% are really that stupid.Maybe some Northern state should establish an official We-Damned-Yankees-Kicked-Your-Redneck-Southern-Asses month.

you know what? i think it might be a great idea to apologize to those that suffered from slavery, but also to all of those that we have done wrong. let's apologize sincerly to the native americans for the mistreatment that they suffered because of us. and let's give them their territories that we took from them like the cherokee tribe or what about the trail of tears? let's apologize to the mexican people for taking half of their country by intigating a falseful war that was procecuted so that President James K. Polk could get his manisfest of destiny. and well, let's give them their lands. let's also apologize to the phillipinos and the cubans, and the puerto ricans-althought they surely enjoy living in the shadow of this country. remenber the poem "the white men's burden" well you should read about it. let's also reflect on thomas jefferson and other people that i guess just lied to themselves in order to rationalize the exploitation of people because of race? Jefferson wrote the constitution and said that "all men are created equal", yet he was a plantation owner owning slaves, why he didn't free them? well in the constitution they don't mention the word slave, they say another one, good luck trying to find the word. let's apologize to those we had done wrong, and even thought this might buy your ticket of conscience, they are plain words if you do nothing! apologies are meaningless unless you really act upon. so before we being hypocrites, let's consider acting out what we say, and not a play of words. this country has alot of things to feel proud, and alot of things to feel ashamed, and we aren't a superpower- we are a bunch of self-egoistical, self-declared romans of the world. just like the romans, and just like the romans we fall!

Confederates scare me no actually to be honest I used to be scared of like... whites... and southerners whenever I got through watching some movie or documentary on slavery. for a while I had been when I was younger and stupid lol. when I went to Japan and we visited the memorial for Hiroshima's bomb attack I felt guilty and apologized alot even though I and most likely none of my ancestors had anything to do with it. unless there's something my grandparents aren't telling me.and I wouldn't expect an apology, not like it matters. it was like what.. 200 yrs ago? I'm sure they get the guilt trip more than enough

Quote:Confederates scare meI know what you mean. Whenever I see someone wearing a T-shirt with the flag or a car license plate, I tend to shy away from them.

You apologised a lot? To who?
-
some random Japanese kids. they were cute but had no idea what I was saying and just waved or scurried away from me.

People have confederate flags on their cars in Canada???
-
That reminds me that the girl I'm seeing now has racist neighbors. They even hung a confederate flag in their window pointing directly at her house. And they're next door neighbors.

Yea I've seen it...mostly around the Dunnville, Ontario area; they're a breed of their own (Actually, we consider them as the Northern Ozark's)They really are the dumbest of the dumb, though. People who are so confused, and about 700 miles away from the Southern USA, lol.

well, you don't need to be in the place where it happened for you to belong to that group. otherwise, communists, and socialists, and the rest off-branches couldn't be in other place only in russia? and by simply getting yourself carried away by what the apperances let you believe is a misleading way. a superficial, if needless to say unaccurate description. it is so easy to herd people into clear , distint groups.

If you were to walk up to a kid in a Che shirt and ask him who, what and why about it, odds are high he's tell you he saw someone in a band wearing one so he bought one.

Thank you! It's cool to be a rebel. But it's not so cool to be ignorant of the fact that your "rebel" icons are responsible for countless murders.
-
that che was really a hard core communist. he also was a murderer. people just wear stuff without meaning. also, race doesn't exist. there is no race. it is just an illusion to enforce the sociological ethics of a society.
