Hi, first time poster here.
Okay... I normally don't talk about these kind of things. :P (either because of pride or not wanting to worry people or both) So I don't know where to begin. But I feel like I am at my wits end here. I looked through this site pretty throughly before posting, and it seems to say nothing about my problem. (though this site is very informative on other topics!) So...
I guess the beginning is a good place to start. In early to mid-feb, I had a cyst right below my temple which swelled up a bit, so my folks made me go to the doctor. The idiot doc perscribed me with anti-biotics-- you don't need that for cysts! But my folks didn't understand that and wanted me to take my "medicne", so I did to shut them up :P Well, I was supposed to take it for 10 days, but by day 3, I noticed I was having problems.
Before I continue, I'll add in that I've been showing symptoms for IBS for quite a while on and off, and I've had to live with it. I've never been *officially* diagnosed or whatever, but that's kaiser for you. Basically, my body can't tolerate some foods, mostly fast food. But yeah, I've had my share of it, and it hasn't been fun.
So, day 3 of the treatment, I felt a sudden urge to go- small case of diarrhea-- only, it looked like nothing I've ever seen before. It was dark- and seemed "flakey", wasn't much either. A week went by and then I suddenly got hit by what seemed to be the Flu of Doom- high fever, FREQUENT diarrhea- only this time the stuff was light colored and VERY mucusey- Because I had no ride untill later, I got redirected at the walk-in clinic to the ER- which I was actually glad of, because whenever I go to the walk-in clinic, they look at me like I'm some kind of hypocondriac and- gr! So I walk, more like stumble, into the ER while my ride parks, with a fever and somewhat dehydrated and I explain my symptoms. They take a blood and urine sample (couldn't take a stool sample as I hadn't eaten in hours) but hearing that I had expierenced around 7 or more loose bowel movments that day was alarming, so they hooked me up to an IV. After the IV (which brought the fever down and rehydrated me), they told me I had a bacterial infection and apparently, the anti-biotic I was given killed off some of the good bacteria and the bad stuff took over. So I was given a perscription and I had to take anti-diahhrea pills the next day, but in a week, I felt GREAT.
As I took the new perscription, I noticed that my stool was less mucusy. There were times however where, when I went to the bathroom it looked.... WEIRD. I don't know if mucus is the right word for it. It's light colored and looks like a clump of...stuff. I've never seen anything like it and don't know how to describe it. The only reason I use the word mucus is because that's what's on the toilet paper. But I saw less of that as I took the perscription and my stool was prettymuch looking normal.
Well, here we are prettymuch a month later. Last week I noticed the mucus was returning though-- and saturday, I had three cases of diarrhea AGAIN with a LOT of "mucus". Freaked out, I went to see a doctor to ask for a re-fill of the perscription, and she said it sounded serious and that I had to turn in a sample.
So, Monday (after swallowing my pride- like I am doing now), I did. And am awaiting results.
In the meantime, I haven't touched the re-fill perscrirtion, and I don't know why. -_-; But... I'm having mucus come out prettymuch everyday (and occasional painful cramping which I can tell isn't related to my menstrual cramps- which I am now expierencing too, as Aunt Flo decided to stop for a visit yesterday). And like I said, I don't know if it is mucus- I've never seen anything like it untill recently, nor have I even HEARD of it. I looked through this whole forum, and I've seen people with bloody stool, but no one with mucus- I looked through this site and there's nothing mentioned about it in the color and texture page. Nothing. Nada.
But.
I'm starting to get scared. I havn't told anyone because I don't want them scared, either.
If something is wrong when you give a sample, they call you back. I remember once I gave a blood sample for a general check-up and got a call back saying I had low potassium levels, but every time in the past when everything was normal, I don't hear from them.
So now it's Thursday morning and no news yet. I may not be a rocket scientist, but I KNOW what I've seen is NOT normal. I don't even know how to describe it. It's light, there's mucus on the TP, normal stool is in small amounts and the "mucus" part looks all... weird and reminds me of something aquatic. I have no clue. But it's freaking me out. Speaking of aquatic, I half wonder if sea-food is a cause. See, when I had the fever in feb, right before I got really sick, I had some crab meat. Last friday, I tasted anchovies-- and BOOM! This mucus stuff again.
I'm no expert. But I am conscerned. If I don't hear from the lab soon, I'm calling.
Any thoughts, PLEASE, would be greatly appreciated.
