Do you think it is ever okay to just allow a friend to cut? If it lessons the emotional pain she faces, and she really is going through some of the most screwed up life experiences I've ever heard of, plus she's tried counsellors, doctors, antidepressants, drugs, sex and alcohol already...gah...my point is...am I a bad person for wanting her to be able to escape her pain? I've never wanted to cut myself, I've never self-injured, but for some odd reason I empathize with her. Cutting is a way for her to take control of her life - a way to deal with her problems, if unconventional. I feel guilty for even considering this...but her parents have told her to commit suicide, and her one-time boyfriend also encouraged her to. She's got all this shite going on in her life...and I hate seeing her in so much emotional pain. Every day brings a new crisis, but when she cuts, she makes sure not to do any permanent dammage, and she cleans herself afterwards and bandages it. After the cutting she feels at peace - ...I dunno what I'm asking for...just maybe how other people who are friends with those who self-injure to give me some input? Thanks in advance...I don't know who else to ask.

Letting cutting slide? for a friend?

I've let things slide that i shouldn't for friends,(didn't go after abusing boyfriend and kill him etc...) but you will later regret it,Try talking to her and see if you can find another way for her to cool off when she gets stressed or depressed
