Alright, so, I drank after a friend of mine, but we do it fairly frequently. Well, somebody else we know, drank from it, and then I drank out of the same bottle, a couple hours later. Thing is, that someone else's family, has herpes. Like, her mom and her sister. And, is it possible that she could be like, a carrier, or something, and it would be possible for me to get herpes? I hope not.

Chance of herpes?

Generally herpes is only contagious during, or just before, an outbreak; and then only at the skin affected. If it's genital herpes, you can't catch it from a bottle unless it's been down their pants.Drinking from the same vessel could pass on some saliva-borne diseases, such as mono.

alright, thanks.

I thought that long ago we decided that based on several studies that you can get herpes like that?
not genital herpes not eh symplex II but symplex I ?
Do I just not remember correctly?
a cold sore is herpes is it not?
Its possible to get THAT type of herpes from sharing drinks, or atleast I thought so.
The rest is valid, that they would have to be having an outbreak in order to spread it that way, but Im about 95% sure that Im right.
If the mother/sister/whatever had genital herpes, they would have to rub the bottle on the sores, but if its jsut cold sores it COULD be transfered by sharing a drink, but only with someone who HAS it and who has a current outbreak. THe girl in question cant carry it (genital) you have to get it from a source, if she wasnt exposed to it through sex she wouldnt have it to pass on period.
I could be wrong on all this, but I think Im right, I know its been discussed many timese here on a2a and several people have added information and studies they found and some medical advice 3rd hand and I am nearly posative that what I included here is correct. -
You're right Chance - I assumed because punku2 said "herpes" rather than "cold sore" that he was probably meaning genital herpes.

I did too when I first read it, but then started thinking that even if thats what the OP did mean that since they asked they wre owed an honest answer and at the very least it would educate them if it was slightly off of what they meant.

thanks to the both of you. oh. and to ingeligible, I'm a girl.
-
Oh, sorry punku2.
