I didn't quite know where to put this nd don't really know why I'm writing it.. I just wanted to get it all off my chest.I'm currentyl for A-levels at school (Grade 13 US eq., I think..) and I needed to get a really good grade for one of my English assignments. I worked really hard on it. There were two texts each with an analysis, over 7000 words total. It's worth 30% of my final mark so was quite important. I was under pressure to get it finished and copied a paragraph (Plus a few more sentence throuout) from a certain website. This was due to my word count being too low. So I sent it in and waited. Not thinking anything of it. Then when everybody was getting their coursework back, mine wasn't in there Then the teacher (Who I really dislike at the moment :P) Called me out of the room and into her office. She then explained that I had copied this and she had found it when "Googling" everybodies work. It was about 100 words in total that I had copied. On one piece of text. She said it was a "serious offence", a letter has been sent home and I would receive no marks for my coursework. I don't know what to do, she even said she didn't accept my apology when I said I was very sorry There were a few other people who had also been called out.. So I didn't feel too bad.. I was still shaking though :PI'm going to talk to somebody "higher up" at school tomorrow to see if there is any way I can re-do this. The only reason I did it was because of the lack of time, there are some people who never handed their work in and have an extension! I wish I had never even given it to her now.Like I said, I have no questions here, just getting things off my chest and it does feel alot better now.. Thanks! You're all great listeners!

That's the shits, butit's why you always, always, always give due credit and proper citation when using someone else's work. Plagiarism, even if it's only in part, is still plagiarism. It may be an over reaction, maybe not, but it is what it is and that's an infraction of ethics as well as law.
Not to be the voice of doom but there is probably little you can do about it. Especially given the current torrent of university students' papers, at least in the U.S., that are plagiarised. It's rather the current issue de jour with educators and that fact isn't going to help you in pleading your situation.
I hope not (depending on what you copied and pasted) but you may have to just chalk it up to a very nasty, shitty, awful lesson learned.

Well I've certainly learned my lesson now. It's just I need another chance or I won't be able to achieve a good grade. I wish I had just not handed it in now, rather than trying to make things easier by copying stuff. Meh, it's always easy to look back like that now I know.. I'll just have to deal with it.

You know you can practically copy a whole paper if you foot note, and cite?

Teachers are looking for what you write, so merely tacking together other people's writing without any of your own won't pass (if the teacher is competent), even if everything is correctly cited. Teachers are not usually interested in wading through reams of other people's work. Quotations from other work are fine, but should be brief.

As someone who has A-levels in Computing, Business Stuides and Photography (although i did bad in all 3 ;o) and knowing what the UK education system is like, what you write should be in your own words, you know you shouldn't have been doing that don't you
The idea is to show you understand what you've learnt, not what someone else has.
Although if it was me i would have done something similar and changed a few of the words around

I did change a few of the words :P But they still found out... I only did it cause I needed to get the word count up. The letter came today, they've made out like I copied the whole thing! 6,900 words were my own, about 100 was copied! Pfff.Oh well, The degrees I have been looking at (Computing) do not require that much to get it so even if I fail English it should all still be fine.

No, but they care about plagiarism and over all good achievement. It does not look good that you did this. =/
