Sickened by the carnage of the Civil War, Julia Ward Howe created Mother's Day as a call for women all over the world, to come together, and try to develop a way to finally do away with war as an acceptable way of solving conflict. And, as Katrina vanden Heuvel writes in Editor's Cut, women are indeed taking action this Mother's Day to "promote the great and general interests of peace" as Ward Howe advocated nearly 150 years ago. It's nice to know that it actually started with some meaning, instead of just a day to send a card.

Regardless of how it started, I think it's a day that should have been set aside since the beginning of time to honor the women who have the hardest job of all, being a mom. It's one of the most thankless jobs at times, and I know it's the most stressful as well, and the women who have been privy to this task in life, whether they're biological mothers, step-mothers, or adoptive mothers, they should beheld in high esteem and the utmost respect for their endless giving of themselves! I only hope that I am half the mother mine and many other wonderful women I know was and still are to any child I hopefully have in the future.

I never knew that, that is a neat thing to know...If Halmark has a reason for a card, they will make one, ya know...
