http://whfoods.org/foodadvisor.phpApparently I'm screwed as far as Iron and Calcium go.
-
What are you deficient in?
-
High chances of deficiencies...Iron, calcium, vitamin b12, vitamin e, omega 3 fatty acids, pantothenic acid, magnesium, vitamin d. The list goes on....I guess i'm screwed
-
You said that you:
are 12-19 years old, White, Female, living in the Northeast and have the following conditions:
Asthma
Based on this information, and your eating habits, the following report indicates which nutrients are most likely to be deficient and recommends foods and recipes that are helpful in alleviating these deficiencies. As always, these recommendations are based on the information you have given and do not take all possible factors into account. Therefore it is important that you understand these recommendations do not substitute for expert professional care.
well im screwed i guess....

It seems a bit dodgy to me in some ways. As well as having rather vague quantities, it only includes certain foods, as if the others had no nutrients in them. And it says I am likely to be deficient in Vitamin D without asking how much sunlight I get. In fact, anyone who gets a reasonable amount of sunlight will not be deficient in Vitamin D.
-
I agree, it doesn't seem very accurate to me. I don't think it asks for enough information. It seems to assume that those are the only things with a lot of nutrients in there, when there are probably lots of other foods with high nutrients but not that much of a concentration. And how many people eat a calf's liver? I think I saw that there.
-
I think thats because it only lists the "Worlds Healthiest Foods" That it has there, but I think it's really handy for people that know they don't get well balanced food, or sunlight, or really anything for that matter, and it does show where you need to sort of...strengthen up. Is gonna be 100%? Hell no, but it does give a very ball park estimate.

Hmmmm... I took this and it said I'm possibly deficient in vitamin D and vitamin E.
Though, I know that's not true because I drink nordic fish oil (lots of vitamin D) and plenty of blueberries (vitamin E) everday.

Okay so yeah I was just thinking how that is really off for me. I take vitamins called "Juice PLUS" everyday, and it gives me over the amount of vitamine E I need (70% from my fruit and 80% from the Vegetable)as well as the Folate and a few of the other vitamins it listed. Granted I still have a lot of trouble areas according to that website LoL.

I thought your Omega 3's would be much higher.

Weird, I just took it again and got dif results. Some of it might have to do with my putting in wrong serving sizes. I always consider a glass of milk as a serving, when it seems that ours are more like 1.75 cups, and I have 2-3 usually.60% vitamin d60% pantothenic acid58% vitamin e54% niacin b350% vitamin b1249% zinc48% iron2% magnesium1% vitamin a1% vitamin c1% calcium1% folate1% phosphorus1% vitamin b61% potassium1% omega 3 fatty acids1% vitamin k1% manganese1% thiamin b10% riboflavin b20% protein0% selenium0% dietary fiber0% copper

The only one it said I was low in was vitamin D even though I get plenty from milk, fortified OJ, and fortified soy milk. In Canada, these products are also fortified with greater quantities of vitamin D to counteract the lack of sunlight in the winter.
