Its funny tho because while all the pro-choice people quietly and formally make appeals for the laws to be changed, its the pro-life people out in the streets shoving images of dead babies into children's faces (and a lovely glowing cross printed on said images). And what effect does it have? None! Because its all up to the government and they're too selfish and fuckheaded to concern themselves with matters that ruin people's lives! We had our General Elections the other day, and once again the majority of this country has shown how little they fucking care!In matters like abortion, it is the moral responsibility of the person involved to make that choice, nobody else. Ireland has reached a level of church/government seperation that just about matches the UK (altho we don't have near the diversity of the UK), the one last matter is abortions.

Ohio's rules getting out of hand for schools!

Quote:yes indeeed, and the light needs to be put back into our public school system again in order for the students to excel with greatness as they head into the real tough world of today.Yes, lets bring the true light of Islam to schools, as religion solves all problems!

Someone stated before that ohio was the only state with god in there moto. I advise you to go look at that link you posted again. Another note, the monkey theroy was never proven and can not, unlike you all who beleave it with we envoled then why are there still apes? Why are there not have ape and have man? If you answer me this then i may beleave it. Now I am 100% christan in my geography class we have had debates over this kind of stuff.

I just believe that its TOTALLY wrong for someone to tell someone NOT or TO believe in something.
See here.. you see people jumping in on how its WRONG to do it.. but no one is really going out of their way to say how its right because they dont want to offend those who dont believe
-
And how can the Ape theory not be proven? We have many fossils that show the evolutionary stages of whales, wild cats, fish, birds and many creatures on Earth. We also have fossils of what you may call half-apes, all members of the Homo genus. Homo Habilis, Homo Rudolfensis, Homo Ergaster, Homo Erectus, Homo Floresiensis, Homo Antecessor, Homo Heidelbergensis, Homo Neanderthalensis, Homo Rhodesiensis, Homo Cepranensis and Homo Georgicus. Take your pick! Do you want to see them? Go to a natural history museum where they have a lot of the fossils on display. Unless you don't believe in fossils either?Humans are not the only species to have evolved to become the way we are, but we have outlived our closest relatives. The next best thing is a Bonobo ape which is almost genetically identical to humans and behaves mostly like primitive humans did, with vocal communication, an egalitarian culture and they are one of the surprisingly tiny amount of species on this planet that recognise their own reflection. And in future, please reply to the person you are responding to, not just the person at the end of the thread.

Thats not true, most people aren't saying that its right because they just don't care about it. The people who have a problem with it believe that its a secular poster focused on the support of an individual religion, or a very tight group of religions. The people who don't object to it simply believe that its just the state motto and that no religious meaning is implied. You'll find a very small minority of people here who would support the promotion of Christianity, or any one religion, in schools because it is very unfair and imposes on people's personal lives.

Quote:You'll find a very small minority of people here who would support the promotion of Christianity, or any one religion, in schools because it is very unfair and imposes on people's personal lives. Actually Ive found the EXACT opposite. Maybe the lack of religion among the generation is what is making it so fucked up.

Maybe its the massive amount of junk food that they eat. Maybe its the tv and music they enjoy. Maybe its cause their parents were obsessed with the BeeGees when they were young. There are lots of possible reasons for the decline of quality in some areas of school life and society in general, it could be the evergrowing population of the world making everyone slightly less special as time goes by.The lack of religion is no great loss.

Acutaly, they don't make us say the pledge anymore. I think they did back in elementary school but they just make us stand up (which was kinda painful lastyear when I hurt my knee). Also, I'm a girl who was raised to be christian but now I'm more Agnostic which I think is a bit different than being an Athiest.

When did I tell you to, or not, believe in something? I'm saying it has no place in a federal building.
-
Seconded!
Have you *seen* this generation? I'm sorry, but Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell telling people that we basically might as well burn the gays, and a new era of anti-semitism growing, organized religion is the *problem* with this generation, that and McDonalds.
Not only are the kids fat, but their stupid too (Joking!)
Religion gives people something to argue over (as it's clear here) if you STOPPED trying to have god EVERYWHERE and just let people make up their own minds with out any imposition by parents, or religious fanatics then MAYBE just MAYBE this would be a better place.
-
Why would we want to keep religion when it has taken the lives of millions of people, caused the suffering of millions more and held back the development of our species for centuries? Religion is used to justify female genital mutilation, religion was used to justify the slaughter of thousands of women claiming that they were witches. Religious beliefs tortured millions of parents by making them believe that their children were stuck in Limbo forever because they died during childbirth or before they could be baptised. But of course, you have your own little form of religion. You're Christian but you don't follow all of the Christian beliefs and rules. So should everyone follow your interpretation? Or Abi's? Or Thor's?

Discussions like this get me so riled up it makes me wanna bite a frikkin' tree!Once again, heaven forbid someone get offended by something. That's like the worst possible crime or sin you can commit these days. Honestly, how does a motto about God on a classroom wall really hurt anyone? It doesn't. Makes someone feel left out? Like their feelings aren't being taken into account? Poor little overprivileged babies. Suck it up and go to math class. As for "separation of church and state", I don't think I need to point out that this phrase in nowhere in the constitution. Anywhere. Or in the bill of rights. The only thing our constitution attempted to do was protect the church from the state, not the other way around. It's a nice little phrase Jefferson wrote that people picked up on and now it's tossed around like it's law. It ain't.Honestly, I could care less if reference to God is there or not. As a Christian, I don't care that there's no prayer in school, or that the Bible isn't taught. I can do these things at home or at church or other places. It's not like Christian kids need to do these things at school in order to be Christian. But it's the hypocrisy that gets me. The mere suggestion that Christianity should be contained to churches and people's personal property is bordering on fascist. Islam, Buddhism, Atheism, Secular Progressivism, New Age, Sexual promiscuity and "freedom"...feel free to plaster them on billboards, sell them on television, and teach them to grade school children. But God forbid anyone have to hear the word "God" outside of a church. That's so f-in ridiculous I can't wrap my mind around.Oh well...there are places in the orchard with better weather. That's where you'll find me.
-
"feel free to plaster them on billboards, sell them on television"There are more christian billboards, televangilists, then ANY other religion... so no offense, but that point doesn't hold water.
-
You may be right, but my point wasn't about religions per se. It was about points of view or ways of thingking that might be deemed offensive to other people. If you collect all the Christian words and cliches and billboards and whatevers and put them all together, they won't hold a candle to all the other crap spouted in the world that offends people. Stuff that's okay cause we're just supposed to be able to turn the channel or "ignore it if you don't like it" or offer it up to the alter of free speech, which apparently is the hightest moral ground you can stand on...or at least until a Christian wants to stand on it.
-
I agree, I think everyone should just keep quiet and let other people live, but that also means that putting it aside in federal buildings, where every person should be accommodated, and that means no mention of anything religious.Personally, if you want to pay for a billboard, be my guest to put what ever you want on it, same goes for TV or Radio, or what ever. If your shelling out the money for media (Fox News, for example) then that's yours.

this conversation is out of control so what else is new. and people somehow always say something that they don't think is offensive when really it's taking to heat. why can't you guys say things without being rude an hurting other? why does it always have to be so hostile? is it really that serious? you can't just let people be happy with what they believe in you have to shove negativity in their faces? fbut that's all I will say on that because I know better. I'll shuddup about the generation sucking ideal and about the religion lacking not being a loss and whatever crap was just spewed on this God-forsaken thread.
however, Java, there has been a rule law or whatever they call it in NYC that you can't say Merry Christmas anymore in certain stores. I think for fear of offending other people? But yeah my cousin and I used to go to Sears and scream "Merry CHRISTmas!!" all the time and people would look at us like we escaped the asylum lol. the security guard threatened to kick us out. funny how they won't approach the group of teens cursing up a storm in a family environment but yet they'll jump on the two girls wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. peoples is fuunnaayy.
oh and I also wanted to add to everyone here that no matter how many times you talk about religion with whomever they will not stop defending what they believe in because that's what THEY believe in. so don't get so upset and hyped up if they aren't agreeing with you and what not. so if you say something negative about that person's belief than can't expect them to not say anything. if i hear somebody saying something rude about my mom you better believe I will be giving you an earfull lol.
