for the past week or so i have been really thinking about what happens after death. One of my dogs got hit by a car and she died and the thing is i really wasnt close with the dog but it got me thinking about death. i then went on vacation and almost the whole time on vacation i couldnt stop thinking about it, and it freaks me out. i mean think about it, when you die, there is no earth, no cars, no computers, you have no body, hands, eyes, mouth all gone, no more breathing, no more heart aches, no more tears, no more laughing, no more hugging, kissing, none of it, the world goes on without you. you are gone forever. i was born a christian and i do believe in heaven and hell, but why do other religions, and science experts have different views of afterlife? what about your partner? i cant imagine not being with her in 60 years or so. im 21 now and i know im still young but think about it 60 years isnt that long. i just need to vent, any views, anything i can do to clear my mind? please help!?!?!

Afterlife/death

I believe kind of in reincarnation, but not really. My husband is an orthodoxish Jew, and believes in reincarnation as well. The scientist in me doesn't believe in anything. The person in me believes that the mind can't possibly just stop.

why do other religions, and science experts have different views of afterlife? Why???? Because no one knows what the real truth is.

then how can one not be totally freaked out about death?
-
Why should you be? It is what it is.. whatever that may be.

It happens. You can't stop it, it's the natural thing that happens no matter what. Could you imagine what would happen with out death? That would be hell/chaos, and we'd all be dead in a few weeks from the other population. You think they're hunger issues now. Imagine the alternative.See, we're given about 70-120 years (barring no accidents or diseases) to have a natural life. Leave our mark. After our natural time is done, or we come to an end by unatural means, that should be enough. I'm 21, and if I died tomorrow I'd know that I lived my life to the very fullest, and it'd be okay. I guess the other reason why some people find death "Scary" Is because you don't know what happens, in all probability it's probably nothingness. The end. Death is sad to those who have to deal with the loss of someone they love, but not scary.

its just a scary feeling knowing that after getting used to everything around you its all going to end, i just wish there was more clarity to it
-
You're used to everything around you? How do you know by the time you die you will? We're all just one car crash away.
-
regardless of whether im used to things around me or not, it will all be gone in due time. how can i not think about that or not wonder or not be scared? how do i find clarity, or how can i stop worrying seeing as how hopefully i still have 60 plus years of life to live.
-
Either find religion, or get over it =/ Look at it like an exciting unknown adventure if you really want to. I mean, it's not like you can stop it, and it's silly to be consumed by the fact you're going to die.
-
well like i said i was born lutheran christian, and beleive in heaven and hell, but the fact is imagining myself without my body, without being on earth, its a strange feeling. any ways i can "get over it"
-
Just do lol, I mean, how do you know you don't have a body in heaven?
-
Look at it this way.a) Heaven after death, great! Nothing to worry about.orb) No Heaven, no nothing, just oblivion. You're not aware that you were ever alive, not aware that you were in love, not aware of anything. What do you remember of the two thousand years before you were born? Nothing. That's exactly how you'll feel after you die. Just remember, the moment you die, you'll either be in Heaven, and happy, or oblivion, and not even knowing (or caring) what happy is. Death isn't so scary.
-
The Christian belief is in fact in the resurrection of the body, at least eventually.
-
You know when you go to sleep, and dont dream, for those 8 hours or however long you sleep, theres just nothing, now imagine that forever, i think that may be what death is like, i also believe in reincarnation a little.
-
You dream every night. It's a part of the sleep cycle. REM sleep is about the time you are dreaming. Whether or not you remember is the question.

i couldnt imagine death as oblivion, idk i feel heaven may be a way for my soul to look down on everything that is happening, and for me to look over loved ones left behind, at least i hope so. just as long as im with my loved ones in heaven as well.

Look at it like that and everything will be fine  and After life wouldn't be an after life with out those we love.
