So our water isn't so great at this place we live right now, and we're stuck here unfortunatly for 8 months. I was curious if the sulfur water can cause me to be really gassy? I don't drink it or anything, but I've eaten some fruit I've rinsed with it, and the result is 1 full day (and counting) of having these absolutely horrible smelling farts, it's unbelievable. Since my Husband does all the cooking (and rinses the food with bottled water), and we drink bottled water, I'm the only one who has ingested the sulfur water. So, is it the water in my system?

Sulfur water causes gassy-ness?

I've drunk sulphurous mineral water without ill-effects. Since the amount of water left on the fruit would be small, I doubt that any chemical contaminant would be a problem. However, there's still the possibility of bacterial contamination of the water. Bacteria from contaminated water used to rinse fruit can certainly cause diarrhoea, as many travellers have discovered, and perhaps a different strain of bacteria could create a lot of gas.

No diarrhea, just gas thank god

However, there's still the possibility of bacterial contamination of the water.Years ago, I was traveling through Bosnia. We stopped at a roadside fruit stand. There was a hose running really cold water over the fuit to keep it cool. I took a big gulp of the water becasue it was sooo cold.Later that night... OMG.. I had the most violent session of vomiting in my life. I later learned that the water was most likely just pumped straight from the river running alongside the road and probably contaminated with some bacteria. That was horrible.

Assuming the water is treated tap water, then the risk of bacteria should be null. Some areas have higher levels of sulfur in their water than then norm. The result is very pungent farts lol, as if you had eaten a food rich in sulfur (like eggs, and some meat).
