My mother suffers from pancreatitis and she’s been having horrible flare ups for the last week or so. She really hasn’t had any problems with it for about three or four years, which was when she had her last bout with it and had to have her gallbladder removed (she was hospitalized for several days prier to her surgery due to the severe pain that was caused by the pancreatitis, and she had her gallbladder removed about a month later). I know that she has to cut back on fatty foods and what not, but I’m just wondering if anyone has ever had to deal with something like this and if they know of anything that she can eat that won’t hurt her. Everything I’ve found on the net just tells me that she needs to learn what to eat by trial and error, or to just not eat for a few days and then try something, but she really can’t do that due to the fact that she’s a diabetic and she has to eat something regardless of how painful it ends up being. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, and it always worries me when she gets sick in any way because I know what affects it can have on her diabetes. She can’t survive on ice chips alone which some people suggest because she has numerous amounts of medication she has to take daily to keep her in relatively good health. - Edit -On a side note, before someone suggest that she not drink any alcohol because it's known to cause flare ups, the strongest thing she drinks is coffee, tea, and the occasion diet coke/sprite.

Pretty much, she needs to be on a fairly bland diet. That is what we found for my sis. For meat, if it didn't fly or swim, it is going to aggrivate it. Fruits and veggies, of course. Cut out the fats. No butter, many cooking oils (we found grapseed to be light enough), no fats pretty much. The sodas are a NO NO!Coffee and tea didn't seem to be a big issue, unless she used real milk or half and half in them. She also takes some probiotics.Good luck. Some of it is just trial and error. Sometimes my sis can have a bite of chocolate, and other times it kills her.
